What if a few simple phrases could bring you closer when things get tense?

Creating your own shared language helps you slow down, repair, and reconnect. 💞

Explore how in our latest post.

Build a secret language with your partner using shared phrases and check-ins to stay connected, repair conflict, and deepen your bond.

This might be awkward, but… is there someone in your life who could use a little relationship help? Maybe a best friend and their spouse. Or your sibling. Or even your parents (yes, even the “older and wiser” among us can still benefit from a little relationship reboot!). If so, The Art and Science of Love workshop might be the perfect gift for this upcoming holiday season.

I know, I know. This might seem like the equivalent of giving your loved one a gym membership for Christmas, but it’s so much better than that! Stick with me, and I’ll explain why.

According to the The Gottman Institute, more than 1,500 couples complete The Art and Science of Love workshop every year. And based on their latest research, we know that even if a couple attends just the first day of The Art and Science of Love, their relationship can benefit immensely.

In fact, the research shows that the best single-day results come from couples who only attend the first day (focused on building friendship) rather than the second day (focused on managing conflict). The Art and Science of Love is such a wonderful gift to rediscover and rekindle that friendship.

That finding may seem surprising to you, but what a lot of us don’t realize is that friendship with our partner matters just as much as conflict management skills. Sometimes, friendship gets left in the dust, and all we have is conflict. By putting an emphasis on first tending to and strengthening your friendship as a couple, you set yourself up to achieve what the second day of The Art and Science of Love focuses on: building a vision for your relationship, finding shared meaning, and managing conflict.

With conferences coming up in October 2025, as well as in February and April of 2026, The Art and Science of Love is a wonderful gift for all sorts of couples in your life:

🎁A couple you love that may be struggling a little
🎁A newly committed couple working on establishing a strong foundation for their relationship
🎁A couple trying to decide whether to commit
🎁A newly engaged couple (give them a start that will benefit their relationship for a lifetime!)

The Art and Science of Love is just as valuable for young couples as it is for couples who’ve been together for decades. And really, making this sort of investment early on in your relationship should be a priority, but it rarely is. Consider this: Some couples spend tens of thousands of dollars on a wedding, but few spend any money at all investing in their marriage.

I know of quite a few folks who have gifted The Art and Science of Love to their parents. Understandably, some of those parents came to The Art and Science of Love with a lot of skepticism. But they left with rave reviews about how, as a couple, it was the most important weekend they’d had in a long time.

Of her experience at The Art and Science of Love, Core Values Counseling client, Beth, says, “The Art of the Science of Love presented by Sabrina Walters delivered on all that I had wished it would be. I learned new approaches to working on conflict in my marriage and learning my spouse at a deeper level by working through the conflict. Sabrina’s presentation was down to earth and easily understood. I could tell she really cared about the subject matter and more importantly, the people who needed it. I had a wonderful time learning hard stuff. That’s the biggest praise I can give.”

Let us guide your loved ones (or you!) into deeper friendship, dreams for the future, shared meaning, and strategies to manage conflict as a couple. Give the gift of The Art and Science of Love today!

Feeling distant from your partner, like the spark has fizzled? Or maybe you’ve noticed you’re operating more like business partners than partners in love—raising kids, running errands, keeping the house from falling apart, paying the bills… daily life can easily get in the way of the friendship you’d like to nurture with your partner.

Good news: there are intentional practices you can learn to help feel closer and more intimately connected with your partner.

We don’t have to tell you that there’s probably nothing better than investing in your relationship through an INTENTIONAL weekend away!

Enter The Art and Science of Love, a two-day Gottman workshop we’re excited to share with you on October 25 and 26!

One of the main areas we focus on in The Art and Science of Love is your friendship, passion, and romance! What if you could go back in time to when you were falling in love? To the days when you had hours upon hours to connect and talk—and it all went by like a blink of an eye?!?

Through the guided exercises (completed in the privacy of just you and your partner), you can begin to rekindle and reacquaint yourselves with each other.

Shared meaning is one of those phrases that sounds big and abstract — but in reality, it shows up in the small, everyday moments that make a relationship thrive. The Gottmans describe shared meaning as the culture of your relationship: the rituals, roles, goals, and symbols that bring depth to your connection.

If you’ve been following along on our blog, you’ve already seen this theme woven through many conversations. In posts like "From Coexisting to Connecting" and the "Power of the Pause" series, we explored how couples can move beyond just “getting by” together. Shared meaning is the difference between living parallel lives under the same roof and truly building a life together.

So what does this look like in practice?...

One of the shifts that can feel both surprising and necessary in adulthood is the way our relationships with our parents change. As young adults, it can feel natural to want to share everything — calling home every day or filling in your parents on every detail of your new adventures. Over time, though, you may notice that those constant check-ins feel less necessary. That doesn’t mean the relationship is weaker; often, it means it’s more secure. That security allows both parent and child to grow independently, while still knowing the connection is steady and reliable in the background...

School is starting, the leaves are turning, and pumpkin spice is about to make its annual debut. For many of us, fall carries a sense of rhythm and routine that summer often lacks — a chance to return to familiar patterns, nourish our bodies, and reconnect with ourselves and our families.

As the season shifts, I notice myself craving structure: healthier meals, regular exercise, and mornings that aren’t a chaotic rush. There’s a cultural rhythm baked into fall — family dinners, packed lunches, and cozy routines that signal “we’re back.” But let’s be honest, trying to do it all — morning meditation, walks, breakfast prep, work tasks — can feel overwhelming...

In Part 1 of this series, we explored what it means to love a parent who may not be able to meet your emotional needs. Now, we’re turning our attention to parenting your own children while navigating that same dynamic.

This can be one of the most emotionally complex roles to hold: to be both a child of a strained parent-child relationship and a parent trying to break generational cycles. The tension is real — and so is the courage it takes to parent with intention...

It’s a painful truth for many of us: the realization that a parent we love deeply may not be emotionally available in the way we need. We want to feel seen, supported, and understood — but instead, we often walk away from interactions feeling dismissed, misunderstood, or even blamed.

It’s common for adult children to carry guilt or self-doubt here. We ask ourselves: Am I asking too much? Should I be more patient? Am I being ungrateful? But the truth is, emotional connection is a basic human need. Wanting warmth, validation, or attunement from a parent isn’t wrong — it’s deeply wired into our nervous system. And when that need is consistently unmet, it hurts...
