Update on our patient with loss of blood supply to her 1st metatarsal (AVN). Now 1 month out of her fracture boot, X-rays (swipe to see) show excellent evidence of graft healing.
Pictured is a before (on the left) and after (on the right) shot. Where’d the swelling go?? Another save at PFAI👊🏼 @ Portland, Oregon

‼️WARNING SENSITIVE CONTENT‼️
Here is an inside look at the surgery performed on an Ehleros-Danlos patient. Dr G walks you through the process:
Permanently putting a joint together (fusion) is very common in the foot and ankle. When this is done our goals are to protect the soft tissues (skin, muscles), preserve the blood supply to the bone, put everything into the correct position, hold it together as stable as possible.
This fusion is usually approached through a large incision that sacrifices the fibula or requires 2 incisions that are higher risk.
We were able to do this through one working incision! Smaller incisions are used to place screws.
The use of a nail (intramedullary or IM nail) helps accomplish or goals!! Updates to come! @ Portland, Oregon
