💛✨Things people worry about before their first yoga class - here’s a peek into my DM’s:

💛Being called out by the teacher
💛Not wearing the “right” thing
💛Not knowing what to bring
💛Not knowing the poses or the names of things
💛Needing to take breaks, ‘not keeping up’
💛Not knowing what their body can do
💛Feeling emotional

At CENTRE Yoga, here’s what does happen:

✨ Options NOT corrections are offered quietly and kindly to the WHOLE room, never one person
✨ Comfortable clothes are perfect
✨ Chairs and props are always available
✨ Gentle strength, balance and mobility
✨ Mindfulness and cueing for injury prevention
✨ A calm nervous system matters here
✨ No pressure, no performance
✨ Eyes on your mat, everyone else’s eyes on theirs. SERIOUSLY no one looks at anyone else - don’t believe me, ask one of our CENTRE yogis and let them tell you what it’s like coming the first time

This is yoga for real bodies and real lives at CENTRE, no matching sets needed lol 🤪🙈 PLEASE, come as you are, there is so much that yoga can do for you - especially if you’re new, sensitive or giving yourself permission to start again.

💛✨Yoga isn’t something we leave on the mat.
It’s how we pause and breathe before reacting.
How we soften our shoulders in the grocery line and how we reach for our breath when the day gets noisy.

Every time you step onto the mat, you’re strengthening your capacity for peace and presence, not perfection.

Tonight at YIN we were reminded that Winter invites us to slow down, to tend rather than push.
To care for our bodies, steady our minds and let rest be part of the holiday and celebration.

If the holidays feel busy or loud, let your practice be your quiet place. Make a space at home or join us for a class.

Make time to move, breathe and enter this season gently.

💛✨Inspired by a conversation after class -

Different styles of yoga support the nervous system differently.

Your nervous system is constantly responding to your life. Your levels of stress, fatigue, stimulation and rest all determine the state of health of your nervous system.

Different styles and what I like to call ‘flavors’ of yoga support your nervous system in different ways.

💛Vinyasa supports healthy activation. Breath synced movement increases circulation, focus and reorganises chaos and static within the system. It’s wonderful to reach for if you experience overwhelm or anxiety. If you’ve had a long day in one place and your body aches from sitting or standing. If you ever experience any disassociation, staring into space or day dreaming this is the class to reach for. It helps you get ‘unstuck’ and connect you to your aliveness!

💛Gentle Flow offers balance and slower pacing which calms anxiety and is like a soothing balm to the mind when there are negative thoughts, low mood and/or depression.

💛YIN Yoga supports deep regulation. Long, passive holds signal safety to the nervous system, encouraging rest, repair and emotional processing. This class is the one that brings longevity. Regular YIN classes add quality and quantity to your life as you lengthen your breaths and recalibrate.

There is no “right” practice, only the one your body needs in that moment.

Practicing yoga means developing awareness and self trust. When you can reach for your dose of yoga medicine with understanding of how different classes and styles can support you it takes your practice deeper.

There are so many gifts you receive from your yoga practice. Nervous system regulation, learning to care for yourself and working through stories, identities and parts of yourself that are read to shed, grow and reveal themselves.

This is powerful yoga for real life, this is the embodiment wisdom we teach at CENTRE.

IN - nose 2

OUT- mouth 4

Nice and softly, little sniffs and long exhales, perhaps you make some sound or sigh out of the mouth.

Take 5 rounds.

Next, softly roll your shoulders forward 3 times, then rolls backwards 3 times.

Next as you breathe in draw your shoulders up to your ears and gently squeeze and hold for 4,3,2 and now exhale, drop your shoulders back down and sigh out of the mouth.

Take 3-5 rounds.

Now return to your day, notice how much better you feel and reach for this quick reset whenever you need it.

🎄✨Holiday season IS ALSO bleacher season ❄️🏟️

After the best weekend ever at my very first cheer competition, one thing is clear our HHS cheer team is talented, work VERY hard and have wonderful coaches!!! 🙌

The kids were squatting deep and flying high! The parents and grandparents were freezing, folding and silently negotiating with their lower backs hour after hour.

We have incredibly dedicated topper fans in Hillsboro and it makes me proud. 🖤🧡🖤

Although it’s Christmas, many of us will be bundled up like artic explorers night after night, tournament after tournament these next weeks.

We SEE you. We love it. We’re cheering right alongside you. 📣🧡🖤🧡📣
ALSO… thank goodness our backs have CENTRE.

🧡Quarter time bleacher yoga lol 🤪🙈 (don’t mind us!!)
🖤Post game decompression - square the shoulders and push gently into the walls of the gym or bedroom before bed to stretch the legs and shoulders, reach for your toes a few times and circle your ankles
🧡YIN practice for hips, spine and nervous systems in full sports parent mode - meet us on the mats for a class this season
