Meet Matt, a client of mine who’s become more like family over the past three years. His birthday just passed and he requested Tiramisu, and said he’s “had some pretty terrible tiramisu in my life, but you definitely came through,” so while I’d love to think he accepted the bind on trust, he may have been paying me back a little.
This year we decided would be the year he walks again on his own, so it seems like it could be helpful to document our progress on social media for esteem and support as we give back the gifts of ancient wisdom and inspiration. We have been following a method of yoga therapy that fuses my Ayurvedic-based CYT training from India with my training in Kundalini ta**ra. Since he needed a miracle in the eyes of Western medicine, the yoga of the mystics seemed necessary.
For the first two years, we worked mostly on temperance of spirit so that his body could start to alkalize and open up. It’s been nothing short of amazing to witness his reactions turn to responses as we prioritized embedding the value of presence into his body. From here he learned how to stand up from the ground with the support of a chair as well as to stand up from a chair with no support at all except his alignment, all using ancient techniques.
Last year we started working on unassisted walking in his living room. I stand by him while he walks on his own, utilizing the yogic body locks to simultaneously deepen healing and control the parts of his body still affected by partial paralysis. This year it’s time to master it. As the song suggests, the formula is simple: presence in the body comes first, alignment to the earth second, and once the body is anchored, movement from the hips provides power and control.
Follow along with us here or on Facebook, it’s my intention to share his progress and these ancient methods that inspire miracles like Matt, which are really just a fantastic pairing of Grace and Grit. Let no one fool you, both of us have had to share both roles throughout this process to get where we are.
