Beautiful MLK Day of Service at Jubilee. We were able to move and drastically improve our compost system and almost complete the weeding of our berry field. Dr. King said, “It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” As we care for our Earth, cultivate, compost, grow and conserve, we are indeed caring for one another. Many, many thanks to everyone who came out today!

Jubilee brings ecological learning and connection to our community. Folks came all the way from Charlotte to learn about food forests from Silverbranch Permaculture (led by the incomparable Matt Tracy). After talking about the philosophy and practice of food forests we dove in, planting almost 40 trees at Jubilee! Pawpaws, honey locust, pomegranate, goumi berry, jujube, plum and pear trees to name a few! Next spring we plan to offer community programs for little ones and young folks to learn more about permaculture and food forests.

Join us at Jubilee on Friday, November 14 for a fire and song circle. The mental health benefits of singing together are well-established. Jubilee offers a community space where all are welcome to join together in song.

Cob progress update! Framing of the outdoor classroom (all with cedars from the land that our neighbor Peggy planted many years ago!) is almost done. The roof is next! The skylight is sourced (I think) and we will be doing a little cobbing starting this very week. Please check out our bio for a workshop link OR email ben@jubilee.clinic if you are living in our community with schizophrenia, schizoaffective or bipolar disorder and want to have a smaller group, low key cob experience in the next few weeks. Our community cob dream is coming true and it’s so very lovely.

So grateful to the amazing team from who came to Jubilee with open hearts and hands to volunteer! They weeded the blueberries and built the stem wall for our outdoor classroom. Amazing!!

The permaculture workshop with Matt was a wild success! We had great attendance and deep learning about what permaculture is and the steps to start some simple permaculture projects.
