A Drop of Breast Milk… in the Nose?! 🍼✨

Yes, you read that right—and science says it might help protect baby’s brain!

A brand-new study explored giving tiny amounts of fresh mother’s milk into the nose of babies with HIE (hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy), a condition caused by reduced oxygen to the brain around birth. HIE can lead to long-term challenges—but breast milk may have something to offer.

Here’s what researchers tried:
• Fresh milk, expressed within 4 hours
• 0.4 mL in each nostril, twice daily
• Started in the first 48 hours of life and continued for 28 days

And the results? Incredible!
✔ Completely safe and well tolerated
✔ Feasible in the NICU and at home
✔ Parents could continue it after discharge

Why it might work:
Breast milk isn’t just food—it’s packed with stem cells, growth factors, immune cells, and anti-inflammatory compounds. The nasal route may even allow these powerful ingredients to reach the brain directly!

This early study focused on safety and feasibility, but it’s a reminder of something truly amazing: human milk is living medicine. 💛

Science is still learning just how powerful it can be—and I’m here cheering for every drop.

NICU moms… this one is for you. 🤍

Breastfeeding in the NICU can feel overwhelming. There are monitors, schedules, medical teams, and sometimes it can feel like your breastfeeding journey is out of your hands. But I want you to know something important: your goals still matter, and they are still possible.

Even when a baby starts their journey in the NICU, breastfeeding can still happen when baby is stable and ready. Sometimes the start looks different—pumping, skin-to-skin, practicing at the breast—but those moments are still building your breastfeeding relationship.

As an IBCLC, one of the most powerful things I encourage NICU parents to do is watch their baby. Look for their cues. When baby starts showing readiness, those little signs matter. And trust your mama heart—it often knows before anyone else when your baby is ready to try.

NICU beginnings may look different, but they do not mean the end of your breastfeeding goals. With patience, support, and time, many families reach the place they hoped for.

You are doing an incredible job. Keep going. 🤍

🌸 Happy International Women’s Day from Peaceful Path Lactation 🌸

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and dedication of women everywhere. One of the many powerful things women do is nourish and care for their babies—often while navigating exhaustion, healing, learning, and a thousand other responsibilities.

Breastfeeding can be beautiful, but it can also be challenging. No mother should feel like she has to figure it out alone.

At Peaceful Path Lactation, we believe every mother deserves support, encouragement, and evidence-based care as she feeds her baby—whatever that journey looks like.

Today we honor the mothers who are:
🤍 learning to latch for the first time
🤍 pumping around the clock
🤍 feeding through sleepless nights
🤍 overcoming challenges they never expected

You are strong. You are capable. And you deserve support along the way.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the incredible mothers and women in our community. 🌷
