We had a very special visitor today! Betty Nakashima was able to see the progress on the M. Nakashima Administration and Training Center. She helped up break ground on this project that honors her son, the late State Representative Mark Nakashima who worked so hard to fight for the healthcare needs of our island among other priorities. This building will also house the future Dr. Judith FitzGerald Simulation Lab in honor of Dr. Fitz, who trained our staff with such a big heart for providing the best care for our patients! We miss both Rep. Nakashima and Dr. Fitz dearly. Betty's visit today was such a bright spot! Happy aloha Friday!

Happy Tuesday! More good news for our patients at our East Hawaii Health Clinics! The walkway between Medical Office Building 1 & 2 has been reopened! Our patients and staff no longer need to walk up to the street and take the sidewalk – making it easier to get from the visitor and staff parking. And…as a special treat, you can walk right through the beautiful courtyard and pass the front of Medical Office Building 3, getting its finishing touches!

There is still a lot of construction on campus so please give yourself a little extra time to get to your appointments. Progress is happening! All for the better!

04/07/2026

On Monday, April 6, we started paving the middle section of the visitor’s parking across the street from the hospital. At the same time, we opened up more and new parking spaces closest to our newly constructed Medical Office Building 3. When entering the visitors’ parking, please take a right and follow signage and look out for safety cones to help you find your parking space while we upgrade our parking lot! As always, if you need help getting from our parking lot to your appointment at the hospital or our medical office buildings, please call our friendly transport staff at 808.747.0275! Parking upgrades should take up most of the month. Thank you for bearing with us as we expand healthcare services for our community! After completion, you’ll see with each step, parking will get better and better!

SPECIAL DELIVERY ON A SATURDAY! Today, we had a highly coordinated delivery of our band new 640-slice Canon Aquilion One Insight CT scanner that took all of 20 minutes to make its way through our Emergency Department and into its new home. The delivery took place between ambulances and without disruption to care. Kudos to House Supervisor Bryan Murakane and ER Clinical Coordinator Dennis Ancheta, as well as head electrician Ed and our Maintenance crew and our CT staff! This CT scanner is the first in the state, second on the entire west coast region and among less than a total of 30 installed in the country. Our Lead CT Supervisor Mahealani Kane was able to write a "time capsule" note to capture the appreciation of the day for the all staff involved. Mahea said that she is looking forward to exploring and learning all the new capabilities offered with the new scanner. She added: "I feel like Hilo, our little community, really is at the forefront of technology when it comes to imaging. Who would think we would be able to acquire this type of advanced equipment. I feel so privileged to be part of this!"

This delivery comes just eight days after the two new da Vinci surgical robots were installed. WTG Hilo! 🙌🏽🫶🏽
