Memory changes can raise a lot of quiet questions for families. Is this just part of getting older, or is something more going on? And what can we actually do to support brain health along the way? 🧠

The encouraging news is that simple daily habits can make a meaningful difference. Movement, creativity, conversation, and learning new things all help keep the brain active and engaged.

At Morning Pointe Senior Living, we often talk with families about practical ways to support cognitive health and meaningful daily engagement. In this week’s Understanding Senior Living blog, we’re sharing simple brain activities you can start right away, along with insights from brain health expert Dr. Gregory Jicha of the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging.

These ideas can help support focus, confidence, and connection at any stage of aging.

This month, we’re proud to highlight Chris Keith, Maintenance Director at Morning Pointe of Hixson. 🔧

Chris is well known by residents for going far beyond his maintenance role. Whether he’s helping solve a problem around the community or assisting residents with transportation to doctor’s appointments, Chris brings a caring spirit to everything he does. Residents especially enjoy the occasional treat stop on the way home, a small gesture that means a lot and reflects how he treats everyone like family.

Chris brings extensive experience in plumbing and maintenance to his role. Outside of work, he and his wife, Christy, a nurse at one of our sister communities, stay busy with their six children. As a family, they enjoy spending time outdoors and cheering on their kids at sporting events.

Thank you, Chris, for the heart, dedication, and kindness you bring to our community each day.

A big accomplishment for the team at Morning Pointe of Hixson. ⭐

Our community has received a Deficiency-Free Life Safety Survey from the Tennessee Department of Health. This unannounced inspection evaluates building systems, fire protection measures, emergency preparedness, and overall environmental safety to ensure compliance with state regulations.

Earning a deficiency-free life safety survey reflects the daily commitment of our associates and the high standards in place to maintain a safe environment for the residents and families we serve.

We’re grateful for the team whose dedication helps make this possible each day. 💚

Sally loves a good collage day. ✂️📚😊

Once a month, the group gathers around a big pile of magazines and enjoys flipping through the pages together. Everyone picks out their favorite pictures, colors, and ideas, then brings them all together to create their own unique collage. It’s a simple activity that sparks creativity, conversation, and plenty of smiles along the way.

Activities like this are also part of the value of art therapy. The life enrichment area serves as an interactive activity space where residents can start their own projects, join guided sessions, or simply enjoy watching creativity unfold. Art is a recognized form of therapy at any level or ability, and many of these special creations are proudly displayed throughout the community.

If you spend a day at Morning Pointe Senior Living, you might start to notice the little things. 👀

A volunteer stopping by for a visit.
Neighbors sharing stories.
An associate making sure the table is ready before everyone gathers.
Someone taking a little extra time to brighten another person’s day.

They may seem small, but these are often the moments that mean the most. 💚

How do you know when it’s time to consider assisted living or memory care?
What legal steps should families think about before a crisis happens?

These are some of the most common questions caregivers ask, and they’ll be part of the conversation at the upcoming Caregiver Café: Caring in the Cove, hosted by the Morning Pointe Foundation at Morning Pointe of Greenbriar Cove. 💬

You’ll hear from a panel of local experts including:
• Chuck Alsobrook, Office Manager, Hamilton County Veteran Services
• Ben Davis III, CSA, Broker Manager, Select Pointe, LLC
• Lacy Graydon, Community Liaison/BSW, Adoration Hospice
• Paula Larkin, CADDCT, Certified Alzheimer’s Disease/Dementia Practitioner/Trainer

During the program, panelists will walk through key topics families often face when navigating aging and caregiving. After the discussion, guests will also have the opportunity to connect with the panelists individually to ask additional questions.

🗓️ Thursday, March 26
⏰ 6:00–7:30 PM
📍 Founder’s Hall at The Commons
4950 Swinyar Dr., Collegedale, TN

Behind every scholarship is a student working toward a career that serves others. 🎓

The Morning Pointe Foundation, established by Morning Pointe Senior Living co-founders Greg A. Vital and J. Franklin Farrow, has received the 2026 SOAR Philanthropy Award from the College System of Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Regents, recognizing the organization and its founders for their lasting contributions to students, communities, and workforce development across the state. 🏆

Since 2014, the Morning Pointe Foundation has focused on strengthening the future of caregiving by supporting students pursuing careers in nursing, therapy, social work, and culinary arts, while also offering free caregiver education programs for families navigating aging and memory care.

Together, Morning Pointe Senior Living and the Morning Pointe Foundation have invested more than $2.1 million in Tennessee’s community colleges and technical schools, helping expand educational opportunities and strengthen the workforce that will care for older adults for generations to come.

We are grateful for this recognition and for the many students, schools, and partners who continue to be part of this mission.
