One of the greatest players and coaches in WNBA history. Dawn Staley is a legend on and off the court. With her olympic golds as a team usa player, and numerous awards as a NCAA player. She continues her dominance at university of south Carolina.
Building the team an identity and helping them reach their first national title in 2017, followed by two others in 2022, and 2024 respectively.

Within it all, is her mindset on staying disciplined and doing the work. As her USC basketball team gears up to play against TCU today in the elite eight, it’s good to learn from Coach Staley on the role of discipline and perseverance in success.

When your child is having big emotions and not listening, it can be a stressful experience for everyone. Instead of assuming your child is being defiant and disrespectful, see if they might be overwhelmed.

If overwhelmed, find ways to co-regulate.
If they are being “defiant” see how you can work together to solve the problem.

Often, its not your childs intention to be upset, something happened that has led to them have a hard time. As suggests, the child i having a hard time, not giving you a hard time.

Communicate from this point of view.

This doesn’t mean let your child get away with bad behavior, it just means opening yourself up to using this moment as an opportunity to connect with your child, validate their feelings, and give them autonomy in choosing the next thing together. You give them the options, they are in control of choosing.

Social anxiety in adults is rising every year. Research indicates this could be roughly 15 million individuals in the US, and that is just the people who filled out the survey.

In a world that is more distant and avoidant of in person connection, adults have started to find themselves to be more anxious in social settings. Our inner voice gets to critical, we overthink every interaction, we doubt ourselves when it comes to making an approach and befriend others.

This is a problem that we as therapists have seen so often in our clients. This is why we started The Coffee Cohort. A co-ed social skills group based out of our Hoboken location. Our goal is simple, help you feel more capable and confident in social situations that typically make you anxious.

With a small group of peers, and us, your therapists and group leaders. We will spend every Friday for 8 weeks, building, practicing and assigning weekly tasks to help you get yourself out there as your most authentic self.

Setting goal is a cheat code, but only if you do it right. One wrong plan and you will lose motivation before you know it. Often times when we set goals its easy to focus only on just outcome. Driven purely by what we can get out of our efforts, our focus shifts away from the process.
Forgetting to take into account the hurdles we’ll be met with along the way and the factors out of our control. This ultimately leads to a failure in reaching our goals. If you’re not ready to see this failure as an opportunity to improve than you are set up to repeat this same goal setting mistake over and over.
So what can you do in order to set goals that you can actually achieve, that takes into account factors other than just the process? That’s where WOOP goals come in.
W- wish. What is the best possible scenario you are wishing for.
(To make the team)
O- outcome. What are specific and realistic outcomes that are attached to your wish.
(Increase my broad jump by 2 inches and my 3 cone drill should be faster by 2 seconds)
O- obstacles. What will get in the way of you reaching the outcome and your wish.
(Knee pain flare up from injury last year and self comparison)
P- plan. What will you do when you are faced with your obstacles.
(I will rehab my knee leading up to the combine and have a set of drills dedicated to it for warmups. When i notice myself compare, ill say 3 reasons why I deserve to be here)

Goal setting is more than just saying the outcome you want. It’s also about giving yourself the best chance to succeed. That only happens when you factor in more than just the preferred outcome. Use WOOP goals.

Our Story

Clinicians at the Lukin Center specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for a variety of concerns in individuals of all ages. CBT is a problem-focused, goal-directed type of treatment that focuses on the dynamic relationships between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The purpose of CBT is to help you learn how to better manage your concerns so that ultimately you can effectively address them independently. To achieve this end, you and your therapist will actively work together to address your concerns. Specialty services include targeting Men's Issues, Couple's Therapy, and therapy with Children and Adolescents.
