The world is opening again! Come to France with me for an Ashtanga yoga retreat Sept 11 to 17 at a French chateau near Bordeaux. 🧘‍♀️ We have an early bird special with $300 off, and on top of it you can get another $200 off ($500 total) with promo code Fall200. Promos are only available through Dec 31.

This place is gorgeous, and there’s tons to do. It’s a bit like the Black Forest of France, with rolling hills, quiet and relaxing ambiance, canoeing, hiking, cave exploring, fairy tale castles, amazing French food and wine, and cute medieval towns to explore. I went there this past summer for a month and liked it so much I bought a house (not kidding!).

I’ve included some pictures from my trip. We drove all over Southwest France with our dogs and settled on the Dordogne valley, the retreat location. This was a coincidence, but speaks to the beauty of the land and the kindness people who live there. We’ll be moving into our home in January (pending closing date).

This retreat will be tailored to you and your level. Whether you’re beginner, advanced or somewhere in between, all are welcome. We’ll do a daily Mysore or led practice, followed by meditation and maybe some chanting.

I’m an inclusive Ashtanga teacher with 20 years of practice experience and 6 years of teaching. I’m happy to teach anyone through 3rd series. Beyond that, I’ll leave it up to you; I’m a 4th series practitioner personally and still learning those postures.

DM me with questions. And don’t worry if you don’t speak French. I’ve got you covered. 😃 🇫🇷

This is a long term goal. Not there yet! 😌 Maybe someday or maybe never. It’s not really important in the long run. Showing up and doing is the thing that matters most.

It’s getting cool again and my body feels stiff. Winter is for maintaining and summer is when the real work happens. So today, I honored that and just “did the work”. 👻 This practice for me is integral to my overall health. I practice 5 to 6 days a week, depending on moon days and travel days (I need 2 to 3 days off for the GMT time change). I take it very seriously; sometimes I have fun and sometimes I don’t. But, my mind and body are 100% better than where I was 20 years ago when I started. So much so that if I could travel in time, I’d come back to now. Not to when I was 24 and not to tomorrow. Now is pretty darn good. 🌸 People sometimes imply that I’m crazy for doing this intense yoga. I actually get that a lot, and the practice is hard to explain to people who have never done it before. I usually just say “it’s like a martial art” and then they quasi-understand. Obviously I’m using shorthand. That said, I’m starting to think in my older age that people are crazy if they DON’T have a dedicated practice of some sort (any kind, not just yoga). Maybe that means I’m less adaptable than I once was, more judgmental. I wish I could show them, but the only way it to experience it. 🌈

Sayonasana balance is tough! I’m trying a new method where I kick up into it. I need to find the balance and not making much progress from pincha. 👻🎃 This is why I love Ashtanga. Just when you have a sense of accomplishment there is a posture that blows you away. If everything was easy though, what is the point?

Another winter is coming. It’s cold here already. But the is year will be different as we begin our transition to our house in France 🇫🇷. There are lots of details we are sorting through, but regardless by the end of December it will be ours. We’re excited. We will still live here in Hoboken too, but are definitely looking forward to being away. 💃 Dont forget that I have an Ashtanga retreat in Dordogne, France. The early bird ends December. We have spaces left, but grab one before it’s too late. It’s a gorgeous place! DM me with questions.

Happy Sunday! .a.vaughan and I practiced in the sunshine a good 2 hours. It’s funny how some days it feels like I’m slogging through my practice and on others it’s like finding $20 on the sidewalk. ☺️

It’s not easy, but nothing in life is. And I suppose if it IS easy, it’s probably not worth the time. 🌸 After a month in Europe I’m headed back to the U.S. We’ll return in a few months after we🤞close on our house in France. After that, who knows. I’ll always have yoga, so let the cards fall where they may.

Times are changing! Joy IMA is closing permanently, though privates and retreats are available. See link in bio. 🇫🇷So why is the Shala closing? It’s really all due to COVID. I lost my day job bc of the pandemic, which also provided the capital to keep it going. Then, instead of just finding another job, I started a marketing consulting company, which is doing great but has become super busy. So I no longer have the time to manage Ashtanga classes either. Since my working situation is entirely remote, I’m also moving to France for half of the year to spend more time focusing on what’s important. I have always wanted to live there and decided that I should just make the move instead of always thinking/dreaming about it. We found a little house in the Dordogne to buy this past week (fingers 🤞). When we’re settled there, I may again offer lessons out of the to***co barn (needs a bit of reno first), but we’ll see. I’m open to new things too!

Was visiting a few weeks ago and had my first IRL class since COVID. Thank you for the assist 🤗

Happy Friday! Still haunted by this one. But I’m started to feel more relaxed overall. It used to be that I would just hope and pray I got up and the cross my fingers that I didn’t go all the way over. It’s a lot of core and bandhas. A good way to end the week. 🥰 Heads up that class is at beautiful outdoor space on Sunday at 10am in Hoboken. Please join us virtually or IRL! DM me for details. 🦋

Lost my concentration in mulabandhasana today as I was interrupted by my little Frankie-dog. Love her!
