James Lee Buskirk, 87, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. He was born on Thursday, August 11, 1938, in Holden, Missouri, to Russell and Virginia (Barnett) Buskirk. James was raised in Holden until the eighth grade, when his family moved to Sedalia, Missouri, to be closer to his father’s employment with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. While in Sedalia, he graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1956. Following graduation, he proudly served two years in the United States Army.
After his military service, James lived in Warrensburg, Missouri, where he worked while earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. He shared a close bond with his mother, Virginia, often styling her hair. At her encouragement, he pursued training at the House of Heavilin Beauty College. Combining his business knowledge with his cosmetology license, James opened “James’ Salon.” Over the years, he successfully owned and operated three salons in the Independence and Raytown areas.
James was known for his calm and gentle demeanor, forming meaningful connections with both clients and employees. In 1990, he met Jeffrey Elliot, who became his business partner and lifelong friend. Together, they owned and operated businesses in Independence, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Virginia Buskirk and his sister, Linda Castillo.
James is survived by his niece, Caroline Castillo-Jolly and her husband, Steve Jolly; great-nephews, James and Ian; his nephew, Victor Castillo and his wife, Teddi; and his cousin, Mike Roberts, whom he fondly remembered from his childhood in Holden.
James also cherished friendships across the country, including in New York and San Francisco, formed through his frequent travels. Throughout her life, he took his mother, Virginia, on many trips, including journeys to Egypt, Spain, Mexico, and beyond. He cared for her devotedly as she aged and remained by her side through her passing. James will be remembered as a loyal son, a dedicated businessman, and a true friend.

Martha “Coleen” Huggins, age 96, of Holden, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Holden Manor in Holden, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family.
Coleen was born on March 6, 1930, in Elmer, Missouri, the daughter of Jimmie and Sarah (Bell) Allen. She graduated from La Plata High School in 1948.
In 1957, her family moved from Elmer to Holden, Missouri. While working at Solo Cup Company in Grandview, Missouri, she met the love of her life, James Huggins. They were united in marriage on February 15, 1964, in Belton, Missouri, and shared 31 wonderful years together until his passing in July of 1995.
Coleen worked for several years as an administrative assistant at Solo Cup Company. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Holden. She cherished time spent with friends, especially playing cards at the senior center. Coleen also enjoyed traveling, decorating for the holidays, and tending to her flowers, where she could often be found outdoors. Above all, family meant everything to her. She lovingly carried on a tradition of hosting Sunday dinners, bringing her family together week after week.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Huggins; her parents, Jimmie and Sarah Allen; and her brothers, Norman Allen, Virgil Allen, Clifford Allen, Junior Allen, and Bob Allen; sisters, Hazel Allen and Opal Agee.
Coleen is survived by her sons, Alan Calhoun and Beth of Holden, Missouri, Donnie Calhoun and wife Patsy of Holden, Missouri; her daughter, Karen Kluz and husband Chip of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with one great-great-grandchild expected in November; as well as many nieces and nephews. Her passing will leave a huge void in those who loved her.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Michael Wakeman officiating. Interment will follow at Holden Cemetery in Holden, Missouri.
Pallbearers will be Harold Moore, Mike Williams, Jeremy Calhoun, Grant Williams, Matt Gouveia, and Ian Stookey. Honorary pallbearers are Chip Kluz, Danny Meads, Brady Stout, Evan Williams, Alex Moore, Phil Cowick, Graysen Cowick, Nolan Stookey, Knox Stookey, Stephen Neuenschwander and Tim Haberstroh.

Richard “Rick” Wayne McQueary, age 72, of Holden, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Rick was born on Friday, February 26, 1954, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Shelva and Delia (Hildebrand) McQueary. He grew up in Peoria and graduated from Dunlap High School. Following graduation, Rick proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant and serving for four years.
While stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in K**b Noster, Missouri, Rick met the love of his life, Marcia. The couple was united in marriage on May 30, 1976, in Peoria, Illinois. They made their home there for three years, during which time Rick worked for Caterpillar Inc. In 1979, they moved to Peculiar, Missouri, where Rick worked as a machinist by day while attending Electronic Technical School in the evenings.
In 1986, Rick and Marcia moved to Holden, Missouri, where he opened his own machine shop, manufacturing medical equipment. In 2010, Rick began working for Stahl Specialty Company as an internal systems auditor, a position he held for three years before retiring.
Rick cherished time spent with his family, who meant everything to him. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who always put his family first. He had a strong interest in computers and was very knowledgeable in technology. Rick also enjoyed history, target shooting, reloading ammunition, and spending time outdoors mowing and caring for his yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelva and Delia McQueary; his brother, Dennis McQueary; and his granddaughter, Kate McQueary.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of the home, Marcia McQueary of Holden, Missouri; his son, Clint McQueary and wife Sarah of Holden, Missouri; his daughter, Jennifer Gray and husband Dustin of Palmyra, Missouri; his brother, Robert McQueary and wife Christy of Eureka, Illinois; his sisters, Judy Peak of San Antonio, Texas, and Jan McMillian of Tennessee; his cousin, Jo Gentry of Peoria, Illinois; and his grandchildren, Connor McQueary, Ryan McQueary, Isabella McQueary, Dalton Gray, and Jacob Gray, all of whom will cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Michael Wakeman officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Holden, Missouri.

Alexander “Alex” James Croy, age 30, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City on Friday, April 3, 2026. Alex was born on Saturday, October 21, 1995, in Kansas City, Missouri, the only son of Harvey and Marla (Strang) Croy.
Alex was a special-needs young man whose life was filled with simple joys and the love of those around him. He attended the Children’s Center Campus until the age of five, and later attended Phillis Wheatley Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri until he was ten. He completed his education at Lakeview Woods State School in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Alex had a great love for music and enjoyed playing with his toys. He especially liked attending events such as Monster Jam, the circus, carnivals, and concerts. Alex also loved spending time outdoors, swinging on his swing, visiting zoos and parks, and going on family vacations. His gentle spirit and the happiness he found in life’s little moments brought joy to those who knew and loved him.
Alex was preceded in death by his mother, Marla Croy.
He is survived by his father, Harvey Croy of Independence, Missouri; his paternal grandmother, Wilma Croy of Independence, Missouri; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who will cherish his memory.

Bertha “Louise” Sechrest, 91, of Kingsville, Missouri, passed away peacefully in Holden, Missouri, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
Louise was born on Saturday, December 15, 1934, in Pittsville, Missouri, the daughter of the late Burney and Minnie (Haines) Smith. She grew up in Holden and graduated from Holden High School in 1953.
On January 26, 1954, she married the love of her life, Earl Sechrest in Holden, Missouri. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Kingsville, Missouri.
Louise devoted her life to caring for her family while also working alongside her husband on the farm. She was a hardworking woman who helped with every aspect of farm life, feeding cattle, baling hay, and tending the land. After Earl’s passing in March of 2001, Louise and her son Danny continued to operate the farm and care for the cattle. In later years, her grandson Lucas also stepped in to help with the farm and cattle, a reflection of Louise’s strength, determination, and deep commitment to the life they had built together.
Louise was a proud member of the Gideons International and a woman of strong and unwavering faith. As part of the Auxiliary Gideons, they participate in pinning the UCM nursing graduates with their Registered Nurse lapel pin. One of Louise's proudest memories of being a part of this great organization is pinning her granddaughter Brooke with her RN lapel pin.
She was a devoted member of Forest Grove Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, where she was actively involved in church and community activities. Family meant everything to Louise. She was a dedicated supporter of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She faithfully attended their sporting events and activities. Louise’s love for her family was immeasurable, and her passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of those who loved her. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Sechrest; her parents, Burney and Minnie Smith; her son, Danny Sechrest; her great-grandchild, Noelle Huisman; three brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by her son, Darrell (Patricia) Sechrest of Papillion, Nebraska; her brother, Larry Smith of Florida; her sister, Mary McConville of Holden, Missouri; daughter in-law, Janet Sechrest of Kingsville, Missouri; grandchildren, Brooke (Russell) Poe of Kingsville, Missouri, Lucas Sechrest of Kingsville, Abigail (Christian) Moeller of Harrisonville, Missouri, Stephen Sechrest of Omaha, Nebraska, Beth (Josh) Kujath of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jamie (Tyler) Huisman of Fremont, Nebraska. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home, 407 S. Pine St. Holden, Missouri. The funeral service will begin immediately following the visitation at the funeral home, with Pastor Michael Wakeman officiating. Interment will follow in Kingsville Cemetery.

Beverly Craig of Blue Springs, MO, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026. She was born January 10, 1936, in Holden, MO.

She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Craig; daughter Jacalyn Magee; parents Glenn and Jane Simmermon; siblings Rodney Simmermon, Ernest Simmermon, Beatrice Fitzgerald, Robert Simmermon, and Eddy Simmermon, and granddaughter Tracy Craig.

Beverly is survived by her children Michael (Virginia) Craig and Karee Craig, and sister Nancy Stoyko. Grandchildren: Kelley (Gerry) Hamblen, Brandon (Kelly) Craig, Erin (Matt) Castner, and Keegan Magee, 11 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.

The family is grateful to the staff at Trustwell Living and loving care from ACG Hospice.

There will be a private family graveside service at Holden Cemetery. Cremation by Neptune Society.

On this day, March 25, 2026, at 03:30 am we give back to the Lord, Alice Faye Tilton. Alice passed peacefully in her home surrounded with love.
Alice was a charismatic firecracker, some would say, she lived a life full of adventures and spontaneous memories.
She leaves behind many family members including Ron Tilton (her man), grandkids Jeremy Tilton, Michaela Schultz, Zachary Merchant and many great grandbabies; her daughters, Heather Anderson (biological) and daughter Renita (in love); sister Patricia Turner; brother, Don Moore and many other loved ones.
Alice’s faith in the Lord was undeniable. We know that God will be welcoming her on this day with open arms in heaven. Sadly, and humbly, we give her back into the arms of her creator, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Alice / Nanny will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Theresa Gayle Wright, age 69, of Holden, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
She was born on Friday, August 24, 1956, in Independence, Missouri, to Ervin Hennrich and Anna Marie (Thompson) Hennrich, both of whom preceded her in death. Theresa was raised in Independence and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in 1974.
On September 6, 1974, Theresa married the love of her life, Terry Wright, in Independence, Missouri. Together, they built a life rooted in love and family, raising three sons and one daughter. In 2017, Theresa and Terry made their home in Holden, Missouri.
Theresa dedicated much of her career to serving others, working as a front-end manager for Walgreens. She also worked at Watt Drugs in Independence, where she served both in the pharmacy and as a front-end manager. She was known for her kindness, strong work ethic, and the genuine care she showed to those around her.
Family was at the center of Theresa’s life. She especially cherished Easter and Christmas, delighting in time spent with her grandchildren. She shared a special bond with her sisters, and their regular gatherings—fondly known as “Sisters Saturday”—were filled with laughter, conversation, and love. Theresa also enjoyed collecting teapots, salt and pepper shakers, and brass figurines.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Theresa is survived by her devoted husband, Terry Wright; her sons, Daniel Wright and David Wright of Holden, Missouri, and T. Shawn Brown of Independence, Missouri; her daughter, Katie Hurshman and husband, Brian of Holden, Missouri; her sister, Anna Coe; her grandchildren, Dylan, Jake, Jordan, Leara, Kylin, Savana; and her great-granddaughter, Evelyn, with two more great-grandchildren on the way.

Annetta “Diann” (Bartholomew) Lindsay, age 84, of Kingsville, Missouri, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2026, in Holden, Missouri.
She was born on May 16, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa, to the late Edgar Bartholomew Sr. and Elsie Marie (Jackson) Bartholomew. In 1966, the family moved from Des Moines to Anderson, Missouri, where Annetta later completed her education and earned her GED. In 1973, she made Kingsville, Missouri her permanent home. Annetta preferred to be known by her middle name, “Diann”, the name she was lovingly called by throughout her life.
On March 28, 1978, Diann married the love of her life, Tommie Eugene Lindsay Sr., in Independence, Missouri. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, raising two sons, Tommie Jr. and Glen, and two daughters, Cheri and Bobbi.
In 1979, Diann and Tommie purchased a farm in Kingsville, where they raised longhorn cattle, chickens, horses, and pigs. She embraced farm life wholeheartedly and especially enjoyed riding horses and caring for the animals. In 1983, they built their family home, later adding a shop in 1990. During the 1990s, Diann worked as a real estate agent. After retirement, she and her husband owned and operated QNR Bargains Thrift Store.
Diann had a creative spirit and found joy in writing poetry and drawing. She was a devoted member of Kingsville Baptist Church, where she faithfully taught Bible Study and Sunday School. Her strong faith, outgoing personality, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Tommie Lindsay Jr. and wife Adeline; her daughter, Cheri Lancaster; her nephew, Shawn Lindsay and wife Dana; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tommie Eugene Lindsay Sr.; her parents, Edward Lindsay and Elsie Lindsay; her son, Glen Helm; and her daughter, Bobbi (Russell) Hambrick.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home, 407 S. Pine Street, Holden, Missouri. Graveside services and interment will follow at Kingsville Cemetery in Kingsville, Missouri, with Pastor John McRoy officiating. Michelle Bilyeu O'Connor, 60 of Holden, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at her home. She was born Thursday, March 18, 1965 in Independence, Missouri, to the late Earnest Bilyeu and the late Mary (Clough) Bilyeu. Michelle graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in 1983 and earned a degree in Commercial Art from Johnson County Community College. She was the loving wife of Timothy O'Connor, marrying June 13, 1987.
Michelle worked for many years in retail for Walker Variety Store and later, Bomgaars where she was known for her warm smile and friendly spirit. She truly enjoyed connecting with people, and her kindness left a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike.
Outside of work, Michelle’s true passion was art. She was an incredibly talented artist, and creating was not just a hobby, it was part of who she was. She needed to make art to feel whole, and through her creativity she brought beauty, color, and meaning into the lives of those around her.
In 1992, Michelle alongside her husband Tim, joined the Freedom of Road Riders, where she proudly served as Secretary and Newsletter Editor. Michelle rode a Honda Rebel motorcycle and very early on became known as "Rebel" which was fitting for her bold personality. She was a passionate advocate for this organization which was a statewide voice for Missouri motorcyclists' rights. Michelle dedicated herself wholeheartedly to this organization and the riding community she loved so much. The friendships she built there became an important part of her life.
Michelle also poured her creativity into making floats for her family’s Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade entry, a tradition she cherished. Michelle joined Tim's hand in friendship in 1981 and has been designing, building and creating the family floats alongside the O'Connor family ever since.
She was a true social butterfly who loved gathering with friends and family, especially at Halloween where their family tradition of huge Halloween parties were filled with laughter, costumes, and unforgettable memories. Michelle’s vibrant spirit, artistic soul, and loving heart touched so many lives. She was involved in countless activities and communities, always giving of herself and brightening every room she entered. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered forever.
Surviving are her husband, Timothy O’Connor of the home; one child, MJ O'Connor of Holden; one brother, Mitchell (Debbra) Bilyeu of Osage Beach, MO; and her in-laws, Tim's ten siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents.

William “Willie” Scott Vance Jr., age 38, of Warrensburg, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 6, 2026. He was born on October 28, 1987, in Chicago, Illinois.
Willie graduated from Holden High School in 2005 and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he worked in construction for several years before becoming a Project Manager for an environmental agency. He especially treasured the time spent landscaping alongside his son, Vince.
Willie had a deep love for children and sports, which led him to serve as both a coach and referee for football, baseball, softball, and wrestling. A lifelong Chicago Bears fan, Willie also valued time with his family above all else. He enjoyed fishing, float trips, and spending days at the park with those he loved most. His gentle spirit, kind heart, and joyful presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In 2019, Willie met his significant other, Megan Breashears, and they shared seven meaningful years together.

Funeral services for family and friends will be held at The Lyric House Church, 123 W. 2nd Street, in Holden, Missouri, on February 16, 2026. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Jason Kinnaman officiating.
Pallbearers will be Zeke Berry, Hudson Gregg, Matt Gregg, Matt Wamsley, Brody Brockhaus, Hunter Carpenter, Eric Rowland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to assist with Willie’s funeral expenses. Donations may also be made at F&C Bank in Willie’s name or through the Venmo QR code below.

Cory Dale Duncan, age 21, of Maryville, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Cory was born on Friday, February 27, 2004, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Gary Robert Duncan and Pamela Denise (Scott) Duncan.
Cory had a love for music and could often be found dancing along to his favorite songs. He enjoyed watching football and Disney movies, and vanilla pudding was his favorite treat. Cory’s gentle spirit and joyful presence will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Duncan; two brothers, Derek Wade Scott and Josh Duncan; his maternal grandparents, Luther and Nancy Scott; and his paternal grandparents, Clyde and Mabel Duncan.
Cory is survived by his beloved mother, Pamela Duncan, of Holden, Missouri; two brothers, Shaun Duncan of Warrensburg, Missouri, and David Duncan of Kansas City, Missouri; along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Graveside services for family and friends will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Holden, Missouri, on February 07, 2026, at 2:00pm, with Nathan Haun officiating.
Pallbearers are Terry Scott, Randy Scott, Jimmy Scott, Chad Foley, Ron Williams, and Colten Scott.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made out to Campbell-Cast Funeral Home to help cover Cory’s funeral expenses.
