It is important to keep safety in mind when cold weather rolls in.

When sledding, be sure to find an area free of obstacles and always go feet first. Wear rubber soled shoes and hold onto railing if available to avoid falling.

Take shorter steps and avoid walking with long strides on snow and ice!

Did you know there are many 3rd party vendors who represent themselves as Oklahoma Vital Records?

They charge high fees and misinform the public about available services. They can take confidential personal and banking information, and will typically pop higher on internet searches than the official Vital Records site (https://oklahoma.gov/health/services/birth-and-death-certificates.html)

For online and phone orders, Oklahoma Vital Records partners with VitalCheck and only charges $15/record + $5 fee for Oklahoma residents (fees will vary for out of state applicants).

The turnaround time is typically 1 business day, provided all information is correct and no follow-up is required.

Don’t be fooled by companies that want to charge you more for free applications that they will mail in and that advertise a longer processing time.

Did you know bats are one of the main carriers of rabies in Oklahoma?

People and pets get rabies mainly from bites by infected animals, but there are several ways to prevent this. If you see a bat, do not touch it or pick it up.

Rabies is seen in skunks and in smaller numbers in horses, cattle, cats, dogs and other mammals.

The OSDH Epidemiologist-on-Call is available 24/7 regarding rabies recommendations specific to animal bites at (405) 426-8710.
