Heyday Speech & Language Therapy is growing to better serve our amazing kids and families in the Salt Lake Valley! As a true neurodiversity-affirming SLP who gets it, I pour my heart into child-led, play-based therapy that celebrates every voice, especially for autistic kiddos.

Imagine your child comepletely unmasking during play, finding their words on their terms through gestalt language processing, AAC, or speech sound support. We honor their unique strengths in our new 1,500 sq ft Holladay space, with sessions Mon-Friday 10AM-6PM and immediate Thu/Fri openings. You’re not alone! Let’s make communication joyful together.

Ready to start? DM me, text (801) 214-5991, or book at www.heydayspeech.com.

Spots are filling and your child’s breakthrough awaits! 🎉

Psst, we also see neurotypical kids too 😊

Are you a therapist looking for a calm, neurodiversity‑affirming space to see your clients without taking on a full lease?

I’m a pediatric speech‑language pathologist with a private practice in Holladay, and I’m looking for a like‑minded professional to share one of my offices.

What’s available:
• Approx. 250 sq ft private office within a 1,500 sq ft suite
• Unfurnished room – bring your own furniture and make it truly yours
• Great for: OTs, PTs, counselors, psychologists, social workers, tutors, or other child/family‑focused professionals
• Shared waiting area, restroom access, WiFi included
• Free parking and easy access for families

Big perk: cross‑referrals
• Built‑in referral source from an established pediatric speech therapy caseload
• Huge opportunity for collaborative care and ongoing cross‑referrals
• Perfect if you love coordinated, team‑based support for kids and families

How it works:
• Flexible options: rent by the day, half‑day blocks, or set days per week
• Ideal for someone building a caseload, adding in‑person days, or wanting a low‑pressure private practice home
• You manage your own clients, schedule, billing, and documentation

About the vibe:
• Neurodiversity‑affirming, LGBTQ+ affirming, trauma‑informed
• No compliance/behavior‑only or highly medicalized approaches
• Collaborative, not competitive – I want someone who’s excited to share ideas and clients, not fight for them

If this sounds like a good fit, I’d love to chat and show you the space!

Send me a message or email at renee@heydayspeech.com with:
• Your discipline (OT, counselor, etc.)
• Preferred days/times
• A brief description of your practice

Can’t wait to meet you!

🧡March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month!

👉🏻Developmental disabilities are lifelong differences in physical, learning, language, or behavior development that begin in childhood and can affect daily life in lots of unique ways.

They touch people of all ages, cultures, and communities, including many kids and adults you already know and love.

Support isn’t just for professionals. Families, friends, educators, healthcare providers, neighbors, and policymakers all play a role in creating accessible, affirming communities where disabled people are included, listened to, and respected.

This month, help to create more awareness so we can move toward acceptance, belonging, and inclusion. 🧡🧡🧡

Supporting neurodivergent kids means learning AND unlearning. We have to outgrow old “compliance” mindsets, listen to lived experience, and keep updating our practice so kids don’t have to mask who they are.

Quick ways to update your practices:

1️⃣ Honor stims and sensory needs instead of suppressing them.
2️⃣ Follow the child’s interests rather than forcing “expected” play.
3️⃣ Use affirming language and goals that focus on communication, not “normalizing” behavior.

So here’s my question for YOU:

What’s one skill you’ve been teaching in a rigid, “one right way” format? What would change if you opened up HOW your child or student or client demonstrates mastery? Drop your thoughts in the comments 👇

“Non-compliance is a kid indicating that they’re having difficulty meeting an expectation.”
- Dr. Ross Greene.

Non-compliance is GOOD because it can be incredibly informative! When we stop for a moment and get curious about why the child is frustrated, angry, or upset, then we open the doors for communication and real connection. Don’t assume you know what skills the child needs to meet your expectation.

Dr. Ross Greene’s Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model views challenging behavior as a sign of skills challenges and unmet expectations, not a motivation problem. Instead of rewards or consequences to manage behavior, adults collaborate proactively with kids to identify “unsolved problems” and the skills the child finds hard, like flexibility, frustration tolerance, and problem-solving.

So the next time a child is being “non-compliant”, ask “how can we solve this problem?” and listen. ☺️

This child is using their AAC device to share, explore, and connect with me, an SLP who’s listening with intention and modeling new ways to share ideas and feelings.

Non-speaking does not mean non-knowing, non-understanding, or non-verbal. His body just doesn’t cooperate in neurotypical ways so I show him how he can communicate in new ways while honoring everything he has to say in his own way.

Communication is connection and this moment is so magical 💛

Advocate burnout is real and it matters.
But it doesn’t overshadow the persistent injustice disabled people live with every single day.

Feeling depleted doesn’t erase our responsibility to center disabled voices. It’s a wake-up call to reimagine advocacy that sustains us and serves.

This isn’t just a post about burnout.
It’s about refusing to let our exhaustion be used to justify inaction, deflection, or silence. It’s about naming the imbalance and recommitting to equity, even when we’re running on fumes.

We need rest.
Disabled people need systemic change.
We can hold both truths and still push forward.
