Some babies settle easily when laid down. Others fuss, arch, or wake almost immediately - especially when placed flat on their backs. đą
For parents, this can feel confusing, especially when everything else seems totally normal!
Comfort in a flat position depends on how relaxed and coordinated a babyâs body feels. Early on, their nervous system is still learning how to adapt to gravity, new positions, and movement outside the womb. If the body feels tense or unsettled, laying flat can feel like too much too soon.
This can show up as:
- Fussiness when placed on their back
- Arching or stiffening when laid down
- Better sleep when held or slightly upright
- Difficulty settling even when tired
Chiropractic care supports this transition by helping the nervous system communicate more clearly with the rest of the body. âš When that communication improves, many babies feel more comfortable relaxing into different positions - including laying flat.
Every baby adjusts in their own time. Supporting their nervous system can help that adjustment feel a little smoother for both baby and parent! đ
