Christmas is a season of joy, generosity, and tradition—but it’s also a time when health often slips quietly to the bottom of the list.

Late nights, rich meals, travel stress, skipped medications, and crowded gatherings can take a real toll. Emergency rooms fill up, chronic conditions flare, and minor issues get ignored until they become major ones. None of this is surprising—it’s human nature during a busy, meaningful season.

The good news is that staying healthy at Christmas doesn’t require perfection. It requires awareness. Staying hydrated. Getting enough sleep. Taking medications as prescribed. Pausing when something feels off instead of pushing through “just one more event.” Staying home and away from others when you are feeling ill.

Healthcare shouldn’t disappear just because the calendar is full. Access matters most when routines are disrupted.

This season is about caring for others—but caring for yourself is part of that calling. A healthier you shows up better for family, friends, and community.

Peace, rest, and good health may be some of the most underrated Christmas gifts we can give and receive.

Wishing you a Christmas marked not just by celebration, but by wellness that lasts beyond the holiday.

TeleMeMD, Urgent Care, or the ER? Choosing the right door matters.

Healthcare works best when patients enter the system at the right level of care. That’s where TeleMeMD changes the equation.

Use TeleMeMD for non-emergent concerns that benefit from rapid access and continuity. This includes acute illnesses (sinus infections, UTIs, rashes, coughs), medication refills, follow-ups, lab review, sleep concerns, and chronic condition management. Unlike traditional telehealth, TeleMeMD can also provide in-person care when needed, including point-of-care testing and select suture repairs, helping patients avoid unnecessary urgent care or ER visits.

Use Urgent Care when a hands-on exam or broader testing is required but the situation is not life-threatening. Minor fractures or sprains, larger lacerations, persistent vomiting, moderate asthma exacerbations, or infections requiring imaging or expanded diagnostics fit best here.

Use Emergency Care for true emergencies where minutes matter—chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe shortness of breath, uncontrolled bleeding, major trauma, altered mental status, or severe allergic reactions.

TeleMeMD is the smart starting point. It combines virtual care, in-person services, and ongoing primary care to deliver appropriate treatment without delay or excess. When a higher level of care is truly needed, patients are directed to urgent care or emergency services thoughtfully and safely.

Right care.
Right place.
Right time.

Does Vitamin C Prevent the Common Cold?

The belief that vitamin C can prevent colds has a long cultural half-life, but peer-reviewed evidence gives us a clearer picture. Large analyses—especially Cochrane reviews—show that routine vitamin C does not stop most people from getting a cold. It does, however, slightly shorten the duration and reduce symptom severity if taken daily before illness begins. A small benefit, not a force field.

Athletes and people under extreme physical stress are the exception; in those groups, vitamin C shows a modest preventive effect.

While no supplement can “bulletproof” the immune system, several have supportive evidence. Vitamin D stands out: low levels consistently correlate with higher respiratory infection risk, and supplementation in deficient individuals reduces that risk. Zinc, when started within 24 hours of symptoms, can shorten cold duration by supporting antiviral activity in the upper airway. Elderberry has early data suggesting symptom reduction in viral infections, though research is still evolving. Probiotics show potential in reducing respiratory infections by influencing gut-immune signaling, but results vary by strain.

The real backbone of immunity still comes from sleep, nutrition, vaccinations, hand hygiene, and managing stress. Supplements can support the system, but they don’t replace the fundamentals. The science tells a simple story: helpful tools exist—but none are magic.

TeleMeMD gets this question all the time: “Do you prescribe medications virtually?”

The answer is yes—when it’s safe, appropriate, and medically responsible.
A virtual visit with TeleMeMD uses the same clinical judgment you’d find in a traditional office. We review symptoms, history, risk factors, and exam findings carefully, whether by video or during a house call. For many conditions—simple infections, stable chronic-care refills, or short-term symptom relief—prescriptions can be managed virtually without any loss of quality.

There are important exceptions. Certain controlled substances have federal and state rules that require in-person evaluations, monitoring, or specialist involvement. Medications for chronic pain, ADHD, and some anxiety treatments fall into this category. TeleMeMD follows those regulations closely to keep care safe and compliant.

Patients appreciate avoiding long waits, crowded lobbies, and insurance hurdles for issues that can be handled quickly and safely from home. When access improves, people get help sooner—and problems stay smaller.

So yes, TeleMeMD prescribes medications virtually, with thoughtful guardrails and clear boundaries around controlled substances. It’s not about shortcuts. It’s about delivering high-quality medical care when and where you need it.

BEHIND THE STETHOSCOPE: Why I started a concierge telehealth practice.

I started TeleMeMD after years of watching patients run into the same barriers over and over—long waits, confusing insurance rules, surprise bills, and a system that made getting care harder than it needed to be. Too many people avoided help not because they didn’t want care, but because the process felt overwhelming, expensive, or inaccessible.

TeleMeMD is my answer to that. I built a model that strips away the traditional obstacles. No insurance hoops. No unpredictable costs. No call centers or weeks-long delays. Patients reach me directly, quickly, and with complete clarity about what their care will cost.
Whether through telehealth or a house call, my focus is simple: provide timely medical care, guide patients through the decisions ahead, and make sure no one gets lost in the system. I coordinate referrals, follow through on the details, and bring back the personal connection that medicine should have never lost.

TeleMeMD exists to make healthcare accessible, transparent, and human again.

Winter has a way of turning even the most energetic among us into blanket-seeking hibernators. As the cold settles in and sunlight fades, it’s easy to give in to the gravitational pull of the couch. But the human body thrives on movement—even when the world outside feels frozen.

Think of winter activity as a mini-experiment in adaptation. Short bursts of movement—ten minutes of stretching between tasks, a quick bodyweight routine before work, or a brisk lunchtime walk—quickly add up. Your muscles stay engaged, circulation gets a boost, and your brain rewards you with extra clarity.

Indoors, creativity helps keep things interesting. Resistance bands stored in a desk drawer, a stationary bike for reading, or simple mobility drills for stiff joints—these aren’t grand gestures, just smart ways to keep your body from idling.

If you head outside, let the cold be your training partner, not your obstacle. Dress in layers, watch for ice, and breathe in that fresh, invigorating air. The bonus? Brighter mood and sharper focus, thanks to a little winter sunlight helping to nudge your circadian rhythm.

Staying active in winter isn’t about achieving peak fitness—it’s about maintaining momentum, supporting your wellbeing, and fueling a healthier future. Keep moving, stay resilient, and make winter just another environment to explore.

This Thanksgiving, let’s focus on more than just the feast—let’s celebrate the power of gratitude.

Did you know that having a thankful mindset isn’t just good for your spirit, but for your health too? Research shows that practicing gratitude can boost your mood, reduce stress, strengthen your immune system, and even improve your sleep.

As you gather with loved ones, take a moment to reflect on what you’re grateful for. Your heart and your health will thank you.

TeleMeMD and Caring Dunn Right, a small, private assisted living home for the elderly in Morenci, MI, have grown into a natural partnership built on the same simple idea: people do better when care feels personal, familiar, and grounded in real relationships. Their home-like setting, small-scale environment, and day-to-day support give residents safety and dignity. My role is to bring physician access directly into that world—quickly, consistently, and without the barriers of the traditional system.

Their caregivers see the early changes: a new cough, a decline in appetite, a worrisome mood shift. Because we work closely together, they can reach out immediately. I step in with telehealth or a house call, manage problems before they escalate, order needed testing, and help coordinate referrals. Together we’ve reduced unnecessary ER visits, caught complications sooner, and kept residents comfortable in the place that feels like home.

Caring Dunn Right creates connection, stability, and daily joy—volunteers, crafts, music, the small touches that make life richer. TeleMeMD adds medical support that responds in real time. The result is a blend of compassionate caregiving and accessible physician oversight.

This partnership isn’t just convenient; it’s transformational for the people we serve. It’s community-based care at its best: warm, responsive, and designed around the person, not the system.

Getting Ready for Your First TeleMeMD Visit

* Jot down your symptoms — when they started, what they feel like, and what makes them better or worse.
* Keep your latest numbers nearby if you track blood pressure, glucose, oxygen levels, or weight.
* Gather your medications, supplements, and over-the-counter items; quick photos of the bottles make sharing easier.
* Bring along any recent ER or urgent care notes so nothing important gets left out.
* Complete your TeleMeMD online paperwork ahead of time so your clinician already has your history before the visit starts.
* If you scheduled a house call, make sure the space is clear and pets are secured.
* Think about your goals — whether you want relief, answers, a care plan, or help navigating next steps.

Your first TeleMeMD visit becomes more than a video call or housecall — it becomes the start of a convenient, supportive partnership focused on your health.

“Antibiotics Aren’t the Answer to Every Illness — Here’s Why”

At TeleMeMD, we’re often asked why antibiotics aren’t prescribed for every illness that causes fever, cough, sore throat, or fatigue. The answer comes down to biology: viruses and bacteria are completely different organisms, and antibiotics only work on one of them.

Viruses behave like tiny code-breakers. They slip inside your cells and use your own machinery to multiply. Antibiotics can’t reach them there. These medications are built to target bacteria — organisms with their own cell walls and metabolic systems. That’s why illnesses like colds, flu, RSV, COVID, and most sore throats don’t improve with antibiotics.

Using antibiotics when they aren’t needed doesn’t speed recovery. Instead, it gives the bacteria already living in your body a chance to adapt. Over time, that adaptation becomes antibiotic resistance — a slow but serious problem that spreads through families and communities.

The key is choosing treatment based on the actual cause. Viral infections usually need rest, hydration, and symptom management. Bacterial infections — such as strep throat, ear infections, certain pneumonias, and skin infections — respond well to antibiotics when truly indicated.

TeleMeMD helps patients sort out the difference so care is accurate, effective, and safe. Using antibiotics wisely protects your health today and preserves their power for tomorrow.

What’s Included in a TeleMeMD Membership?

A TeleMeMD membership is built around one goal: giving you fast, reliable access to a physician who actually knows you—without the delays, waiting rooms, or confusion of traditional care.

Members get same-day or next-day telehealth visits, longer appointment times, and direct communication for questions, follow-ups, and ongoing support. Most everyday concerns can be handled virtually, and you never have to fight through a phone tree or sit for hours just to be seen.

Your membership also includes help coordinating labs, imaging, prescriptions, and referrals so you always know the next step. It’s a smoother, more personal way to stay ahead of your health.

When an issue can’t be solved virtually, house calls are available for an additional charge. They bring medical care—including point-of-care testing, suturing, and select procedures—directly to your home and integrate seamlessly with your ongoing telehealth support.

Medical care delivered when and where you need it!

From the ER to TeleMeMD

Years in the ER taught me to move fast and look for the story beneath every crisis. Over time I realized many “emergencies” weren’t sudden at all—they were the result of delayed appointments, transportation issues, and the frustration of trying to access care in a busy system.

I didn’t leave Emergency Medicine; I followed what it showed me. If we reach people earlier and make care easier to access, we prevent a lot of those crises from ever happening.
That’s what led me to house calls and telehealth. Today, mobile diagnostics, high-quality video visits, and rapid communication make it possible to deliver meaningful care without the waiting room. Patients get seen quickly and in the comfort of their own space.
House calls bring medicine back to its roots. Telehealth brings it into the future. Together, they create a model that’s personal, efficient, and centered on real connection.

My work now focuses on meeting people in a relational way and where they are—on screen or at their front door—and practicing medicine in a way that truly fits their lives.
