At EnduraFit, our philosophy is really quite simple. Treat the body as an entire system instead of individual parts and use different methods to help each client and patient reach their goals. By using this approach, we are able to incorporate personal training, physical therapy, yoga and nutrition coaching for whole body wellness in a one-on-one setting. We emphasize the importance of teaching clients and patients how to move properly for strength, mobility, stability, balance and injury prevention in each program in a fun and inviting setting

Teaching the body to "hinge" the correct way before adding load will not only make it a much more efficient and effective exercise, but will also drastically reduce the risk of injury. The BENEFITS OF FOAM ROLLING

You’ve heard these terribly painful sounding words before… FOAM ROLLER! You know it’s good for you, but really, what’s the deal about it?

Foam rolling is a form of self myofascial release. Basically, it’s a fancy term for self massage. But you already have a massage stick or a theragun? Those are great, too, and an important part of healing those trigger point areas. But, the foam roller can target a larger area at any given time.

We need to start thinking of foam rolling as muscle injury PREVENTION instead of only recovery. We’re talking a total of 5-10 minutes per day. Seriously! We all have that time while relaxing in front of the TV at night. (Side tip: foam rolling BEFORE your workout is better than after, too. 😉)

Here are some of the benefits of foam rolling on a regular basis:
🔹 decreased recovery time after workouts
🔹 improved circulation
🔹 stress relief
🔹 injury prevention
🔹 improved range of motion of joints
🔹 loosening of tight or overactive muscles
🔹 improvement in postural alignment

Nearly ALL of our clients are assigned foam rolling homework daily. Whether you’re an elite athlete, an average Joe like the rest of us, or an exercise enthusiast, (heck, even if you’re someone who hates exercise), you need to foam roll!

Why not get pain free before Thanksgiving? Physical therapy can look at muscular imbalances, general movement patterns and other potential causes for your pain. It’s often something more simple than you think.

Sore back? We hear ya. It’s that time of year… lots of bending, reaching, lifting, twisting, sitting. All that weeding, gardening, yard work and fall-time activities can leave us with an unwanted gift: BACK PAIN!

But, we’ve got you covered. Here are a few easy and gentle stretches you can try to get your back feeling a bit looser and more comfortable.

However, if these gentle stretches don’t seem to cut it and you’ve been dealing with back pain for longer than 2 weeks, PLEASE contact us. There’s probably a little more going on that may need some more specific-to-you attention. We’d be honored to help you.

THERAPY THURSDAY!

Hopefully you’re not as far behind in leaf clean up as we are at our house, but just in case you’ve got truckloads left to do like we do... here are some great tips to prevent that dreaded back and shoulder pain that we see often as a result:

🍂 Do a quick warm up - just get muscles ready for repetitive motion. A couple of squats, a few wall push ups.

🍂Find that big rake! And a moderately sized tarp.

🍂Change up your arm/hand placement often. Changing sides can reduce back and shoulder strain.

🍂Take breaks! I know. It can get really annoying if you’re trying to get it all done before the snow flies, but it really does make a difference to rest or do another task every 20-30 minutes.

🍂Try to keep your core tight while actively raking and squatting to lift those leaves into the bags or trailer.

WELLNESS WEDNESDAY
Weight loss vs. Fat loss... which is better?

We all want that scale to read a little lighter! Let’s dive into the difference between weight loss and fat loss.

❔Which one do we prefer to focus on at EnduraFit?

❕Generally speaking, WEIGHT LOSS is just that - an overall decrease in how much our body weighs. This just means there is a decrease in body fat weight, a decrease in muscle mass and a decrease in water in the body. Good for getting the scale down, but not necessarily good for overall health.

❕FAT LOSS, which we prefer, is decreasing body fat while maintaining or building muscle and maintaining water. When we lose body fat, we’re not actually decreasing fat cells in number, but decreasing fat cell size. Because we use fat as energy, the more we use, the smaller the cells get.

❔HOW do we lose body fat?

❕Follow these 6 simple rules:

1️⃣ Be in a calorie deficit. Eat high protein, low calorie meals. How much protein? Multiply your weight in lbs. X 0.7. So if you weigh 185lbs, multiply 185 x .7 = 129g of protein daily.

2️⃣ Don’t forget that water. Drink more than you do already.

3️⃣ Lift weights, and we mean heavy!! Don’t be afraid to push or pull big weights. If you’re nervous about injury, that’s where we come in. Call or message us.

4️⃣ Get those steps in every day!! Remember the calorie deficit?

5️⃣ Get plenty of sleep (6-8 hours).

6️⃣ Be Patient!! This takes time.

That’s it! Really! Focus on these 6 rules and watch your body fat % shrink. Need some guidance? Message us. We would love to help.

Happy 10th Re-Birthday to this guy! 🧡

What’s a RE-birthday? It’s a pivotal day in a cancer survivor’s life. It’s the day Chris received his stem cell transplant. (Thank you, !) We celebrate this day as the first day post all chemo, the first day toward cure, the first day toward living dreams rather than living in fear.

🧡 It’s essentially, also the birth of EnduraFit and our program (and soon to launch app!), STRONGCOLOGY. It’s a chance for us to give back to the amazing community of cancer warriors and their caregivers. (More about it here: https://www.strongcology.com/)

Today we celebrate LIFE! And thank everyone who made it possible. 🧡
