As Independence Day quickly approaches, we wanted to showcase how fireworks may affect people with PTSD, especially veterans.
Fireworks can be a trigger for individuals if they have experienced a traumatic event that involved loud noises, explosions, or similar stimuli.
They may experience heightened anxiety, panic attacks, increased heart rate, sweating, and a sense of impending danger. These symptoms can be extremely distressing and may interfere with the person's ability to enjoy public events or social gatherings where fireworks are present.
