Remember, love has many definitions, but abuse isn’t one of them.

As we honor Black History Month, it is vital to recognize the mental health challenges faced by Black communities, rooted in a history of systemic inequities and stigmas. Established by Carter G. Woodson, this month serves as a reminder of the resilience shown by Black individuals despite facing profound barriers in accessing mental health care. These challenges underscore the importance of culturally grounded support systems and advocacy efforts aimed at dismantling stigma and improving access to care. Engaging in open conversations about mental health disparities is essential for fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.

The demand for quality mental health and substance use care has never been greater, yet funding for critical community-based services has not kept pace with the need.

Please note: this rally is separate from our Family Day in Annapolis event on February 12th.

On February 26 at noon, the Behavioral Health Coalition will bring hundreds of advocates together on Lawyers Mall in front of the State House in Annapolis to stand up for the more than 1 million Marylanders living with a mental health or substance use disorder.

We’re urging the General Assembly to provide adequate funding for critical behavioral health care.

Join us and help Keep the Door Open in Maryland.
