Revision surgery means going back in to address a problem that developed after a prior spine surgery. This isn’t because the first surgery ‘failed’, it’s often because the spine continues to change over time.
In this case, the patient previously had a lumbar fusion. Over time, the levels around the fusion took on more stress and began to break down. This is called adjacent segment disease.
