CAUTION ⚠️ GRAPHIC ⚠️ ACHTUNG For those following my IG closely, you may remember a post from the Vancouver ASSH conference where I had the opportunity to demo a new sutureless technology in nerve repair, . Today I used it in a real patient for the first time. This young electrician lacerated his wrist on sheet metal and severed his radial sensory nerve causing numbness over his thumb. I used the Nerve Tape to repair the nerve today at our surgical center and it worked wonderfully 👍🏻 🌯

Like all of plastic surgery, breast augmentation requires attention to detail. This patient had a subtle asymmetry in the size of her breasts and desired augmentation. I explained the augmentation could augment the asymmetry, and therefore asked the patient for permission to use my judgment with regard to implant selection intraoperatively. I’m very pleased with her result as we met our goals of making her breasts both fuller and closer to symmetric with the surgery. She’s a beautiful lady and her result matches her persona 🙏🏻 👙

Thank you Arthrex for the warm welcome and the opportunity to practice thumb CMC arthroplasty surgery in your cadaver lab. I was able to get a hands on experience with a very minimally invasive approach to the procedure via their “Fiberlock” suspension system. 🙏🏻

October wrapping up and it felt good to be a part of all of the breast cancer awareness activities we sponsored this month. The biggest highlight for me was getting to spend time with my lovely patients at our annual BRA (Breast Reconstruction Awareness) Day event 🙏🏻🩷

CAUTION ⚠️ GRAPHIC ⚠️ ACHTUNG This patient had a complex, submuscular lipoma in her neck, that she felt was causing pressure on her windpipe. It was not far from her major neck vessels. I had a broken ankle that had been surgically repaired two weeks prior. I did not want to postpone her surgery and fortunately was able to do it on one leg. Three months out she looks wonderful and feels much better with the large lipoma gone. 🙏🏻

This patient had a disfiguring wound of her nose after Mohs surgery to remove a skin cancer. She was in a panic after the procedure understandably concerned about future deformity. I recommended a two stage procedure to reconstruct her nose with a skin graft and she has done beautifully👃🏻👍🏻

Thank God, another awesome day in this majestic city. It started with Fairuz playing in the background at breakfast. That followed with an update on the latest information and technology in endoscopic carpal tunnel release. I learned a new innovative and less invasive approach to thumb CMC arthroplasty with the “Fiberlock” system and was able to demonstrate it on a silicone model of the hand. I was then super impressed after trying out the new “Nerve Tape” technology that can be used for sutureless nerve repair and coaptation. The day ended with a “Poutine Bar” 🍟 and “Donut Wall” 🍩 ASSH, you know how to run a meeting! So grateful and looking forward to take what I learned back home 🙏🏻 ✋🏻

What an amazing first day in Vancouver at the American Society for Surgery of the Hand National Meeting! It started at 7AM learning and performing the latest techniques in nerve and tendon transfers on cadaver arms guided by national experts. The evening included an educational session on using Xiaflex to treat Dupuytren’s contractures and I was able to trial their “mixed reality” teaching model for injecting PIP and MP joint cords. All this with incredible views of this beautiful city sprinkled in. So grateful to be here for this outstanding educational experience 🤓🌄✋🏻 🇨🇦

It’s officially so I figure it’s appropriate to post a recent interesting breast reconstruction case. This patient had a mastectomy on the left side with reconstruction by an outside surgeon for breast cancer in the distant past and was referred to me after being diagnosed with a new cancer on the right. I performed an immediate breast reconstruction to reconstruct her right breast, but she was also asking if something could be done about her reconstructed left breast as her implant was migrating laterally towards her side. After completing tissue expansion to rebuild her right breast, I took her for implant exchange last week, where I switched out her expander for a permanent breast implant on the right, but also took the opportunity to revise what had been previously done on the left. Check out the video to see what we did.

Three weeks ago I had the opportunity to use the latest technology in breast implants during a revision breast reconstruction surgery. The “Motiva” implant has a shell design that makes it hypocapsulogenic, meaning less likely to cause a capsular contracture. The specialized surface of the implant does not affect its natural feel. I was pleased to be one of the first surgeons using it at Riverview Medical Center this summer, and even happier to see my patient looking and feeling great three weeks postop. Not that I can afford to eat another cake, but thank you for the support! 🍰 🙏🏻 🚫

This lovely patient had massive breasts and a strong family history of breast cancer. She chose to have bilateral prophylactic mastectomies. She presented to me to discuss the options for breast reconstruction and we settled on using expanders and breast implants. I knew it would be a difficult case given how large she was and the fact that implants are limited in size. She is almost three months out from her implant exchange and her body is unrecognizable (in a positive way) compared to what it once was. I am thrilled for her, and her husband, who has been a constant support throughout her process.

Hopefully, for once I can actually drop a few lbs on summer vacation! 😅 🏊🏻‍♂️ 💪🏻🇸🇾🦅🙏🏻
