From recipient to donor, Jeff's story comes full circle ❤️

Jeff knows firsthand the power of blood donation. After receiving multiple transfusions during his battles with leukemia and lymphoma, Jeff has spent years giving back by hosting blood drives.

But this time was different. At his most recent drive, Jeff didn’t just help organize and recruit—he rolled up his sleeve and donated for the first time in nearly 10 years. After a successful bone marrow transplant and years in remission, Jeff recently became eligible to donate again, and he didn’t hesitate to give back.

“It is better to give than receive… I couldn’t donate for so long, but now that I can, I will continue to give. It could be you at any point in your life. I’m a prime example.”

Thank you, Jeff, for leading by example and reminding us all why donating blood matters.

This Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, we proudly recognize our incredible laboratory teams!

Before a unit ever reaches a hospital, lab professionals test, process, and prepare it for patients. It’s detailed, highly skilled work that donors and patients don’t often see, but rely on every day.

Alongside professional education series and team activities, the team marked the week with themed spirit days — including Lab Story (Toy Story), pajama day, and superhero day — a reminder that even serious work benefits from moments of connection and fun.

Thank you to our laboratory professionals for the expertise and care you bring to this work every day! 🧪

In honor of Volunteer Month, we’re celebrating Rich, whose journey into volunteering began after losing his wife and searching for a meaningful way to give back. Since 2018, he’s become a familiar and welcoming presence at blood drives, greeting donors and helping create a warm, supportive experience from start to finish.

“I get to meet different types of people and find that rewarding,” Rich shares. “I find that I get more than I give.” ❤️

Before retiring, Rich traveled from bank to bank as a bank examiner. Now, he travels from drive to drive building connections with donors and staff alike. Even after completing chemotherapy treatment in 2025, his compassion and resilience continue to shine through every shift.

Volunteers like Rich help keep drives running smoothly, reduce wait times, and make every donor feel cared for. We’re so grateful for the heart he brings to this lifesaving mission.

Interested in giving back in a different way? Volunteer with us or schedule a blood donation, every role helps save lives.

Some people donate because they can — and that’s exactly why Danielle keeps showing up.

Danielle has been donating blood since she was just 16 years old. Having seen friends and loved ones rely on transfusions, including during cancer treatments, she understands how powerful one donation can be.

“I am able to donate, and that’s why I do.” ❤️

Our Story

New Jersey Blood Services is a division of New York Blood Center. Founded in 1964, the New York Blood Center Network (NYBC) is a nonprofit organization that is one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers in the world. NYBC, along with its partner organizations Community Blood Center of Kansas City, Missouri (CBC), Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD), and Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC), collect approximately 4,000 units of blood products each day and serve local communities of more than 45 million people in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), Mid Atlantic area (PA, DE, MD), the Kansas City metropolitan area, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Southern New England. NYBC and its partners also provide a wide array of transfusion-related medical services, including Comprehensive Cell Solutions, the National Center for Blood Group Genomics, the National Cord Blood Program, and the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, which—among other milestones—developed the Hepatitis B vaccine and a patented solvent detergent plasma process innovating blood-purification technology worldwide.
