Our Story
Bell Works is the comprehensive revitalization and re-imagination of one of the world's most celebrated buildings, the former Bell Labs facility in Holmdel, NJ. Master developer Somerset Development is reviving the wonders and capabilities of the architecturally and historically significant two-million-square-foot structure to create a dynamic, mixed-use hub for collaboration, creativity and innovation. The building’s vast size and flexible layout are conducive to reuse as a one-of-a-kind environment, allowing for a rebirth that will serve the needs of a new generation. Much like a lively urban downtown, Bell Works will provide workers and visitors with a decidedly metropolitan backdrop that affords access to an abundance of services and amenities, all in a single, dense and walkable locale. Central to Bell’s renaissance is a new pedestrian-friendly public walkway created from the complex’s existing atrium that will connect a balanced mix of uses including offices, supportive retail and dining options, health and wellness uses, a hotel and conference center, educational facilities, an upscale spa, and public facilities. Originally designed by famed architect Eero Saarinen and constructed between 1959 and 1982, the mirrored glass-enclosed structure was once home to Bell Laboratories, later known as AT&T, Lucent, and ultimately Alcatel-Lucent. Within these walls researchers made countless discoveries that continue to shape our day-to-day life, not the least of which include the development of cell phone and fiber optic technology. It is with this prevailing spirit of creation and innovation that Bell Works has been conceived.
