Holton Community Hospital is proud to introduce a new resource for our community.

The Jackson County Kansas Community Resource Guide is now available on our website. This directory connects residents with local programs offering support for housing, food assistance, transportation, behavioral health services, medical equipment, family services, and many other community needs.

Whether someone is facing a difficult time or simply looking for available community support, this guide helps connect individuals and families with organizations serving Jackson County.

Resources included serve residents throughout Holton, Hoyt, Mayetta, Denison, Circleville, Netawaka, Soldier, Whiting, the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Reservation, and surrounding communities.

This guide is provided as a public service and includes community resources regardless of affiliation with Holton Community Hospital.

I had the chance to attend the premiere of the new TV show Aging Untold at WIBW yesterday. I met the host, Katherine Ambrose , and we had a great conversation about her journey. She and her husband, Randy, are originally from Wichita and have an incredible story behind this project.

I’m curious — has anyone watched an episode yet? It airs Monday through Friday at 3 p.m.

If you’ve seen it, what did you think?
Do you feel this is a conversation Holton Community Hospital should be part of as we continue supporting our aging population?

🌎✈️ Welcoming International Nursing Students to Holton Community Hospital

Today, we had the honor of hosting Japanese exchange nursing students through Washburn University’s long-standing partnership with Fukuoka University.

Washburn University maintains a reciprocal nursing exchange program that allows students from both institutions to compare healthcare systems, cultures, and patient care practices between the United States and Japan. During their visit to Kansas, Japanese nursing students participate in an intensive three-week program focused on English language development, American culture, and hands-on healthcare observation. The experience fulfills nursing elective requirements and provides valuable insight into differences in care delivery across countries.

In alternating years, Washburn nursing students travel to Japan for the same immersive opportunity — strengthening global collaboration and cultural understanding within the healthcare profession.

We are grateful to be included as one of the healthcare organizations these students tour during their time in Kansas. Exchanging ideas, perspectives, and best practices not only enriches their education, but also reminds us that healthcare is a global commitment to compassion and excellence.

Thank you for visiting Holton Community Hospital — we wish you safe travels and continued success in your nursing careers!

Not all heart symptoms look like the movies — and sometimes the most dangerous ones are the easiest to ignore.

Our cardiology partner, Chris Tollefson, APRN-C, NP-C, Cardiac Medicine Certified with the Cotton O’Neil Heart Center and Stormont Vail Hospital, shares an important reminder for :

" Chest pain isn't always the warning sign.
Fatigue, shortness of breath, jaw or shoulder pain can be heart symptoms too.
If something feels off, don't tough it out. Get checked by your cardiologist."

These quieter symptoms are often overlooked — especially by busy adults who assume they're “just tired” or “overdoing it.”
But listening to your body could prevent a serious cardiac event.

🚨 Warning signs to never ignore:

* Unusual fatigue
* Shortness of breath
* Pressure or discomfort in the jaw, neck, or shoulder
* Dizziness or lightheadedness
* A feeling that “something just isn’t right”

Your health matters — and early evaluation saves lives.

Holton Community Hospital encourages everyone in Jackson County to learn the signs, take them seriously, and reach out to a healthcare provider when in doubt.
Your heart is worth protecting. ❤️

Healthcare access in rural Kansas doesn’t happen by accident — it requires smart policy and sustainable support.

The 340B Drug Pricing Program helps rural hospitals like Holton Community Hospital stretch limited resources to keep services available close to home.

This program:

• Is NOT a tax
• Uses NO Kansas taxpayer dollars
• Helps hospitals maintain infusion services, behavioral health programs, cancer care, and more

More than 90 Kansas hospitals rely on 340B to help protect access to care in their communities.

The Kansas Hospital Association recently created this video explaining why the program matters to rural Kansans. We encourage you to watch and learn more.

If you care about protecting local healthcare access, visit our page to understand what 340B means for our community and how you can respectfully contact your legislators.
