What a FUN day doing community education! 💙
A huge thank you to Holton Community Hospital for sponsoring this presentation by purchasing all of the demonstration items—it truly helped bring the learning to life for these kids! 🏥
I had the opportunity to visit Holton Elementary (2nd & 4th grade) AND Holton Preschool (morning + afternoon classes) for some hands-on learning about the 5 senses 👀👂✋👃👅
We brought the learning to life with googly eyes, BIG ears, and giant hands—because why not make it fun?! 😄
The kiddos got to:
👃 Smell mystery jars
🐾 Feel different types of animal fur
🫶 Explore how our bodies help us experience the world
Such an amazing group of kids—curious, engaged, and full of energy!
A big THANK YOU to the teachers for welcoming me into your classrooms and allowing me to be part of such a fun and educational experience 💛

💎 The GEM Awards Are Back! 💎
We’re excited to recognize those who go above and beyond for our patients and team—and this month, we’re proud to honor Lloyd for outstanding teamwork. 👏

During a recent inpatient surgery, Dr. Bruna identified a treatment that required supplies not immediately available at our facility. While arrangements were being made to have materials shipped overnight, Lloyd stepped up without hesitation. He offered to personally drive to Stormont Vail that evening to pick up the needed supplies—ensuring the patient could begin treatment as soon as possible.

💙 Lloyd’s actions reflect the very best of our H.E.A.R.T. pledge:

* Teamwork – Stepping in to support both his team and the patient
* Empathy – Understanding the urgency and importance of timely care
* Accountability – Taking initiative to ensure the best possible outcome

Lloyd truly went the extra mile—literally—to provide exceptional care. We are incredibly fortunate to have him on our surgical team!

Please join us in congratulating Lloyd! 👏

Feeling exhausted even after a full night’s sleep?

You might think it’s just normal fatigue — but it could actually be a sign of SLEEP, one of the most underdiagnosed health conditions today.

In a new article, Dr. Lee Schnee of Holton Family Medicine explains why sleep plays such an important role in your overall health — including **heart disease, mental health, and weight management.**

Many patients are surprised to learn that untreated sleep apnea can contribute to:

• High blood pressure
• Chronic fatigue
• Weight gain
• Diabetes risk
• Memory and concentration problems

Doctors often start with a simple screening called the STOP-BANG questionnaire, which helps identify people who may benefit from a sleep study.

Dr. Schnee also shares practical tips for improving sleep habits and why quality sleep is essential for your body and brain.

Question for our community:
Do you usually wake up feeling rested in the morning, or still tired?

Access to local healthcare in rural Kansas is being discussed right now at the Statehouse.

Recent developments in the Kansas House have delayed action on legislation that impacts the 340B Drug Pricing Program — a program that helps hospitals like Holton Community Hospital continue providing essential services close to home.

This program:

• Is NOT a tax
• Uses NO Kansas taxpayer dollars
• Helps support infusion services, cancer care, behavioral health, and more

More than 90 Kansas hospitals rely on 340B to help maintain access to care in their communities.

We are asking for something simple — that issues important to Kansans, like 340B and PBM reform, are brought forward for a vote so elected representatives can represent their communities.

If you believe in protecting access to local healthcare, we encourage you to respectfully reach out to your Kansas House representative and ask them to support bringing these issues to the floor for consideration.
