Chiropractors use adjustments to restore joint function and support the nervous system. He lives in Westfield with his wife Kathy and their dog Ernesto.
They help patients maintain optimal health while avoiding unnecessary drugs or surgery. After graduation from high School Dr Jim did a two year hitch in the U.S. Army where he was trained as a medic and became interested in the medical field. After discharge from the Army he entered an Associate in Science in Respiratory Therapy Program. Upon graduation he worked for 3 years as a Respiratory Therapist in the Hospital setting but became disillusioned with the medical profession. Having developed an interest in weight training in high school that had stuck with him through the years he decided to go into the fitness business. He owned and operated two fitness facilities over a 10 year period, U.S.A. Gym in Westfield, and Super Fitness in West Springfield and during that time was introduced to Chiropractic. He sold his businesses in 1989 and went to Chiropractic school at the age of 38. He Graduated from Life Chiropractic College in Marieta, Georgia in 1995 and then opened an office in Mobile, Alabama. After one year in Mobile he returned to MA and worked as an associate for another year. He opened Atlas Chiropractic in West Springfield in 1997 and moved the office 3 miles down the road to Holyoke in September 2007. Dr. Jim developed an intense interest in low force "tonal" techniques while at Life Chiropractic College (Life University) and over the years has done a great deal of additional training in Network Spinal Analysis, in Atlas orthogonal Technique, in Sacro-Occipital technique, in Thompson Technique, in Logan basic Technique, in Activator technique and in Toffness Technique. By combining some or all these techniques he has developed his own unique conservative method of restoring normal Spinal alignment and neural integrity. His burning desire is to introduce as many people as possible to the miracle of Chiropractic. His key to success is to follow your heart and do what you love. His hobbies are motorcycles and fitness. Something no one knows about him is that he was 1979 New England States Power-lifting Champion and 1984 New England's strongest man runner up.

When it comes to neck pain, many patients seek out chiropractic care. In fact, there are several studies demonstrating that manual therapies performed by doctors of chiropractic can offer significant benefits for non-specific or mechanical neck pain as well as neck pain arising from injuries rela

Atlas Chiropractic Raises Over $8,000 for Kate’s Kitchen During 13th Annual Patient Appreciation Event
On November 18, 2025 — This office presented a check for $8,055 to Michael Nowak of Providence Ministries, which operates Kate’s Kitchen. The presentation took place at our office located on 1353 Dwight Street in Holyoke, marking the culmination of the practice's 13th Annual Patient Appreciation Event.
We want to Thank God and our patient's for their commitment and support as we announced the successful completion of its 2025 Annual Giving campaign, resulting in a significant donation to support local food security efforts.
This annual initiative brings together Dr. McCann, his staff, and the patient community to support those in need within the Holyoke area. For over a decade, the event has served a dual purpose: providing high-quality chiropractic care to the community while gathering essential resources for local charitable organizations. Historically involving food drives, the event has evolved to focus on monetary donations to maximize impact for local service providers.
During the Appreciation Event, existing patients were invited to schedule appointments where they received chiropractic adjustments in exchange for a voluntary cash donation. The event saw robust participation, with 233 participants contributing to the fundraising total. This community-driven approach allows patients to directly support their neighbors while maintaining their own health and wellness.
Atlas Chiropractic also expanded its outreach to new patients during this period. The clinic waived standard consultation costs for individuals suffering from health conditions who had not yet found relief. First-time patients received a comprehensive consultation and examination, including any necessary X-rays and neurological scans—a package valued at up to $240—in exchange for a $99 donation to the Annual Giving fund. This structure ensures that financial barriers do not prevent residents from accessing necessary spinal care while simultaneously boosting the donation goals for Kate's Kitchen.
The success of the 2025 campaign highlights the dedication of the Atlas Chiropractic patient community. Their generosity directly supports the mission of Providence Ministries and Kate's Kitchen to feed the hungry in the Holyoke area. Since starting the practice 29 years ago in September, Dr. McCann has remained committed to leveraging his professional expertise to foster a healthier, more supportive community.
