Wow! The Washington State-based Murdock Charitable Trust just gave South Peninsula Hospital’s imaging services a huge vote of confidence with a $250,000 grant to help us purchase a new 3D mammography machine. With mammography, the data are unequivocal: early detection saves lives. This grant will help SPH continue to be a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, providing the highest quality breast health screenings to local communities. Keep an eye out for launch of services with the new machine in Fall 2026!

Feeling a little low? A walk might help more than you think.
Movement isn’t just about fitness: it’s essential for mental well-being. Yet, only 55% of Alaskan adults meet physical activity recommendations from the CDC. That means nearly half of us could be missing out on the mental and physical benefits of regular movement.
The good news? You don’t need to hit 10,000 steps a day to feel the impact. Research shows that walking just 7,000 steps a day can lower your risk of death by 31%. It’s also been proven to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

And don't forget, every Monday the SPARC is open from 11:45am to 12:45pm for FREE open walks for all! Our indoor community walks offer a safe, comfortable space to maintain your routine while connecting with others.
