Meeting Announcement - KPB’s South Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area board is an elected board that provides public recommendation on capital spending of tax dollars and scope of services for South Peninsula Hospital. They meet the second Thursday of each month at 6:30pm in the hospital’s conference room and on zoom. This month’s meeting is Thursday, March 12th at 6:30pm. South Peninsula Hospital is hosting a community conversation to share plans on how the hospital is preparing to meet the future healthcare needs of the community. This March, our Wellness Wednesday line-up includes topics such as Cultivating a Resilient Heart and Speech Therapy 101. After each one hour health presentation, local yoga instructor Joolee Aurand will lead us in an hour of yoga (styles will vary weekly). As always, free soup and bread will be provided, and all are welcome — we hope to see you there!

South Peninsula Hospital is turning 70 this year! To commemorate this significant milestone, we'll be sharing some as we lead up to a community celebration this summer.
Where it all began... Homer Hospital-Health Center (pictured here) opened July 1, 1956 (pre-statehood!) as part of the Kenai Peninsula Public Utilities District, and housed a dental clinic, medical clinic, public health clinic and two-bed hospital, funded by Alaska Public Works Fund of the Territory of Alaska and local donations.

South Peninsula Hospital’s Operations Board of Directors is made up of local residents who provide governance and direction for your community hospital. Meetings are held monthly and are open to the public.

The next meeting is tomorrow, February 25th at 6:30pm in the hospital’s conference room (accessible via Entrance B on the lower level) and also available via Zoom.

Congratulations to Kim Olsen on her 30 years with SPH!
In the past 30 years, Kim as held positions in over twelve different areas at the hospital, including Long Term Care, Acute Care, Emergency Room, Surgery, Front Desk Registration, and Billing - just to name a few! She is a volunteer extraordinaire, always helping SPH with community outreach when she can. "It has been a fabulous career," said Olsen. "SPH has opened so many doors of opportunity for me. It has been my greatest joy to be able to embrace each and every step of my journey at SPH." Thank you, Kim, for being such an incredible asset to our team. We're so lucky to have you and look forward to your continued years of service.

Wow! The Washington State-based Murdock Charitable Trust just gave South Peninsula Hospital’s imaging services a huge vote of confidence with a $250,000 grant to help us purchase a new 3D mammography machine. With mammography, the data are unequivocal: early detection saves lives. This grant will help SPH continue to be a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, providing the highest quality breast health screenings to local communities. Keep an eye out for launch of services with the new machine in Fall 2026!

Thank you Homer Chamber of Commerce for a fun Winter Carnival Parade!
South Peninsula Hospital is proud to celebrate 70 years of showing “snow much love and care” to the Homer community. Starting as a two-bed hospital in July 1956, SPH is now a state-of-the-art critical access hospital with 9 ER beds, 3 birthing center beds, 18 acute care beds, 28 Long Term Care beds, and numerous specialties, services and clinics to provide care for the growing community. Watch for our anniversary party this summer!
