Shelley's Story:
=====
In May 2024 I walked into Burn looking for change. At that time, I had a 5 year old and nearly 2 year old at home. Also, following my second pregnancy, I had complications that required multiple surgeries throughout the previous year. When I walked into Burn I was tired. I felt weak, out of shape, and a bit overwhelmed with where things were at in life. So I took a chance, hoping that committing to a group fitness camp would give me accountability to get back in shape.
At Burn, I have found a love and excitement for exercise. I wake each day grateful to be able to move my body. I didn’t grow up an athlete or even regularly exercising, so this has been a huge lifestyle change. When I can’t make a camp, my body craves it. I never thought I would actually desire to wake up at 4:30AM every day to make sure I don’t miss a camp. Burn has also provided an amazing community of women. They push me to lift heavier, run to the next curb, and keep doing the burpees, even when I want to stop. More than that, we check in on each other, our families, our work, and hold each other accountable to show up for ourselves, even when life is busy or hard.
Burn has made me stronger, both mentally and physically. I am so proud of what my body can do, but perhaps the greatest blessing is the confidence I now have to stand comfortably in my own skin. I came into Burn Boot Camp Homewood looking for change and what I found was far greater than I could have hoped for. I found amazing trainers who believe in me. I found a community who pushes me. And I found confidence in the progress I’ve made these past 16 months. It’s exciting to know that I’m not finished, that I still have goals to accomplish, and this is just the beginning.
