Newcomer Eyecare had an incredible opportunity to speak with the amazing women of Women in Networking of Citrus County this week! 💼✨

Dr. Lowe was honored to present on three of the most common misconceptions in eye care that we see every day in practice:
👁️ “If I see fine, I don’t need an eye exam”
👁️ Understanding when medical insurance or vision plans are billed for your yearly eye exam
👁️ Optometrist vs. Ophthalmologist—who should you see and when?

These conversations are so important because eye health goes far beyond just vision, and empowering our community with knowledge is one of the best ways we can help protect it.

Thank you again to Women in Networking of Citrus County for the warm welcome and the opportunity to share! 💙

⚠️ Eye Drop Recall Alert

More than 3 million bottles of eye drops sold at major stores like CVS, Walgreens, and Kroger have been recalled due to possible contamination risks. — see image for list of recalled products.

** IMPORTANT TO NOTE: No drops listed on the recommended eyedrops given to you by Newcomer Eyecare have been recalled!

👉 What to do:
• Check your eye drops (especially store brands)
• Look at expiration dates (many are in 2026)
• If unsure, stop using them and ask your eye doctor or pharmacist

💡 Watch for symptoms like redness, pain, or vision changes—if these happen, get checked ASAP.

Good news: this recall is considered low risk for serious harm, but it’s still important to be cautious.

When in doubt, bring your drops to your next eye exam and we’ll help you sort it out 👍

You don’t need a vision plan to take care of your eyes 👀

At Newcomer Eyecare, we often hear patients say, “I don’t have vision insurance, so I’ll wait.” But here’s something important to know:

👉 You do NOT need a vision plan to be seen for medical eye care.

If you have Medicare and a medical diagnosis such as:

• Cataracts
• Dry eye disease
• Glaucoma
• Macular degeneration
• Diabetes-related eye changes
• Poster-cataract lens replacement (YAG laser needs)
• Eye infections, flashes/floaters, or eye pain

Your exam is typically billed through medical insurance, not a vision plan.

Vision plans are mainly for routine glasses and contact lens exams. But when there’s a medical condition involved, your eye health is considered part of your overall healthcare — and Medicare may provide coverage.

If you’re unsure what your benefits include, our team is happy to help you understand your options before your visit.

Your eye health shouldn’t be put on hold because of insurance confusion. 💙
