Project SEARCH is a high school transition program that partners with Wayne Memorial Hospital to support young adults with special needs as they explore career paths, gain hands-on work experience, and build the skills needed for competitive employment. Through the program, students complete rotations in several hospital departments, learning workplace expectations while discovering where their interests and strengths shine, both within the hospital and throughout the community.

“This program gives our students confidence, independence, and a sense of purpose,” said Taylor Ellis, Project SEARCH instructor. “They’re learning real job skills, building relationships, and seeing what they’re capable of in a professional setting. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch them grow.”

To showcase their experiences and career interests, Project SEARCH students will host a Reverse Job Fair on Wednesday , March 4, from 9 to 11 am in the hospital concourse. Unlike a traditional job fair, students will host tables and share information about the types of roles they are interested in, along with the skills they’ve developed through their hospital rotations.

“This event is such an exciting moment for the program and for our students,” said Kathleen Seifried, Wayne Memorial Liaison for Project Search. “It’s a chance for our team members to connect directly with these talented young adults, learn more about their interests, and see firsthand how meaningful this program is.”

Hospital employees, potential employers, and community members are encouraged to stop by, meet the students, and join the conversation. Your time, encouragement, and curiosity help make Project SEARCH a powerful pathway to employment and inclusion.

Where’s Denise Fanitini, RN? On her way to Florida? Maybe! After just over a decade at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Denise has retired…from full time, that is. She has plans, but it does include per diem work. That’s good news to the many patients she’s cared for in the Infusion Clinic for the past five years. Denise started in PCU/Med Surg before transferring to Infusion. Cake and festivities were in order yesterday, then…travel, spend time with her children, get a dog. Congratulations Denise and thank you. We’ll be looking for you!

Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) has established a partnership with the Adalyn Rose Foundation (ARF) in providing compassionate care and comfort to families during and after the loss of a child. ARF provides comprehensive and continuous support to families who have lost a baby at any time during pregnancy, infancy, or early childhood.
A dedication, in honor of Hudson John Yedinak, was held at WMH Friday, February 6th, along with gentle training for maternity staff, social workers, and chaplains. Hudson is the son of Katie and Cody Yedinak of Greentown and brother to eight-year-old Ella. He passed away shortly after birth last June.
In memory of Hudson, the family stocked a Remembrance Cart for WMH with meaningful items and resources for newly bereaved families to gently guide them in making memories with their babies. Families are often shocked and unprepared. “I appreciated it so much,” explained Katie. “Having a resource was, and still is, so helpful.” The Remembrance Cart also includes Max’s Angel Closet with sleeper gowns, name plates and more for keepsakes. The cart will be maintained and stocked by ARF and the Yedinak family.
“We’re glad to be partnering with the Adalyn Rose Foundation,” said Mary Beth Dastalfo, RN, BSN, Clinical Coordinator, New Beginnings Birthing Suites at WMH. “It will provide us with resources and guidance that we did not have in the past. The families we provide care for will definitely benefit from this partnership as well.” For more information about ARF, visit adalynrose.org

Wayne Memorial Hospital’s (WMH) stock of Jared Boxes has been replenished thanks to the generosity of two local organizations. The Wayne Highlands (WH) Pop-Up Club at the Cooperage Project with 24 boxes and Wayne County Business and Professional Women (WCBPW) with 40 boxes, made the donation on Thursday February 5th. The activity boxes are provided to young patients and their parents at WMH during potentially stressful days, offering some comfort and entertainment.
Referred to as “the gift of play,” the boxes are named after Jared McMullen of Centre County who was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor in 1999 and died the following year. He always carried a backpack with games and toys to his appointments and shared them with other children. To learn more about Jared Boxes, go to TheJaredBoxProject.com.
