Knowing how to read a food label can help guide you to better food choices. Here is what it all means:
1. Serving size- how much of a food item this information pertains to. Here the serving size is 2/3 cup or 55grams if you weigh it. Not to be confused with portion size...many time our portion- what we serve ourselves- may be 2 or 3 servings 😔
2. Servings per container/ package. IMPORTANT because many items that appear to be single serve may in fact have multiple servings. If you ate this whole package of food it would be the calories, grams of fat, protein, etc. multiplied by EIGHT 😳
3. Total carbohydrates- per serving. Looks for foods that have fiber and include zero or little added sugar.
4. Add foods that are HIGH in: fiber, vitamins, minerals.
5. Choose foods that are LOWER in: calories, saturated fat, sodium, added sugars, and contain NO trans fats.
