The Child's Play Therapy Center teams in Huntsville, Hoover and Chelsea provided a 'sensory friendly' event for children and families at each of these locations. We are grateful for every family who joined us! Building community is at the heart of what we do—caring for children, caring for families. 👻💕

🎃👻 October is not just the month of Halloween, but also Physical Therapy Month! As we celebrate both, let's take a moment to address an important topic: the risks of W-sitting in children.

W-sitting may seem comfortable for little ones, but it can lead to serious issues with their hip and knee development over time. Let's encourage healthy sitting habits and keep our kids moving freely! Check out this resource created by one of our CPTC physical therapists, Laura Lee.

🌎 Happy World Occupational Therapy Day 2025!
Theme: "Unity through Community: Building Inclusion and Participation"
Today we celebrate Occupational Therapy (OT) — a profession dedicated to helping people of all ages do the things they need and want to do every day.
In our outpatient pediatric clinic, that means empowering kids to gain the skills they need to grow, play, learn, and thrive. Through purposeful, play-based activities, we help children build independence, confidence, and coordination so they can participate fully in daily life — at home, at school, and in the community.
💡 What does that look like?
Helping little hands develop the strength and control for handwriting, dressing, and feeding.
Supporting sensory processing so kids can focus, self-regulate, and participate in school or playtime.
Encouraging social and emotional growth through movement, play, and positive routines.
Guiding parents and caregivers with strategies that make daily routines more successful (and less stressful!).
Every milestone — from tying shoes to joining a playground game — is an occupation for a child, and OTs are here to make those moments possible. 💚
So today, we celebrate the creativity, compassion, and collaboration that make OT so special. Here’s to every child reaching their fullest potential — one skill, one smile, and one step at a time!

October is AAC Awareness Month! Child'sPlay Therapy Center has a speech language pathologist, Alia Shoemaker, at our Huntsville locations who is registered as an NLA Trained Clinician and an AAC+GLP Trained Clinician. She has specialized training in platforms such a LAMP (Language Acquisition through Motor Planning) and Tobii Dynavox Systems. She is passionate about collaborating with families and other service providers!
