Thank you to Senator Ron Latz for taking the time to meet with us and discussing the unique and often invisible needs of suburban youth experiencing homelessness.

In our West Metro communities, many young people and families are not unsheltered — they are couch-hopping, doubled-up, or on the brink of losing housing. Without the right supports, these situations can quickly escalate into unsheltered homelessness.

Flexible state funding like Local Homeless Prevention Aid and the Homeless Youth Act is critical to ensuring that all youth and families have access to safe and stable housing.

These investments allow Move Forward to provide:
✨ Outreach services that connect youth to resources
✨ A welcoming drop-in center for support and basic needs
✨ Our scattered-site Transitional Living Program that helps youth build independence
✨ Prevention through our Schools-to-Housing program, helping families stabilize before homelessness occurs

When we invest in prevention and youth-centered solutions, we are not only addressing today’s housing instability — we are helping to break the cycle of homelessness for the future.

We are so grateful to the team for coming together today to assemble outreach packs for Move Forward.

These packs are a vital part of our outreach work. They include basic need items and snacks that our team can provide directly to youth while on shift. Having these supplies on hand allows us to meet young people where they are, reduce harm, and make sure they have access to essentials during times of instability.

This kind of support makes a real difference. It helps ensure our team can respond in the moment and reminds young people that their community cares about them.

On Friday, January 23, Move Forward will be closed as we stand in solidarity with our community, labor unions, schools, and faith communities in observance of ICE OUT MN: Day of Truth and Freedom.

For 36 years, Move Forward has worked to break down barriers for youth and families—standing with those most impacted and alongside the frontline partners who continue to provide safety, care, and stability every day.

We remain committed—now more than ever—to continuing this work and fighting even harder for those who need us most.
