(Rosemarie Ann Ruffo Marks)

Rosemarie Ann (Ruffo) Marks, 71 of Almond, NY, passed away at home, very peacefully, on March 28th, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
For nearly three decades, she met her illness with valiant strength, grace, and a resilience that inspired all who knew her. She was a walking miracle! Even in the face of hardship, her smile never faded, her spirit remained radiant and powerful, she carried herself with a natural elegance, effortlessly refined, with a warmth and comfort that drew others in.
Rose was an honor student throughout high school, and built up a well-rounded resume, all while being a caretaker for her parents. She continued her education in business and finances at Powelson Business Institute. Later she went back to school at Medaille College, while raising a family and working full time.
She met Fred, the love of her life, while working at NYSEG in Binghamton. Together they built a life centered on dedication, love and family, as well as antique boats and boating (we cannot leave that fun adventure out), while raising their children; Frederic, Melissa and Domenica.
Nothing meant more to Rose than her children and grandchildren. She loved them fiercely and without condition, hence her bold honesty when needed. She adored the beauty and wonder of God’s creation around her, from flowers to farm creatures. Her numerous friends were very special to her. Gatherings with family and friends were her happiest moments—when the house was full, stories were being told, laughter filled the rooms, and food covered the table in true Rose fashion. Those gatherings were a reflection of her heart: welcoming, generous, and full of love.
Though she is no longer here with us, she remains forever cherished as her light endures—in every fond memory, every life she influenced, and in every person that was fortunate enough to sit at her table or be held in her heart.
She is survived by Domenica Burns (daughter, Hornell, NY) and husband Jonathan D Burns, Frederic R Marks Jr (step-son, Hamburg, NY) and his wife Maureen J Marks, Melissa T Merlino (step-daughter, Venice, FL), Deborah Fike (sister, Concord, NC), Roger & Smoke Marks (brother and sister-in-law, Marion, NY), Constance Marks (sister-in-law, FL), Grandchildren; Abby Rose Marks (Buffalo, NY), Kira Lee Emmerick (Venice, FL), Micah S Burns (Hornell, NY), Karis I Burns (Hornell, NY). Nieces and Nephews; Justin & his wife Meredith Marks (NY, NY), Lucas and his wife Sandy Marks (Randolph, NJ), Trenton Shady (nephew Jimmy’s son, NC).
Predeceased by, the love of her life Frederic R Marks, parents Lillian Mary Cioci and Anthony James Ruffo (Endicott, NY), Mother and Father-in-law, Francis Richard & Janice Rothery Marks (Binghamton, NY), Sylvia Cioci Logan (aunt, Endicott, NY), James Shady (nephew, NC).
Calling Hours will be held at Bender Brown and Powers Funeral Home in Hornell, NY April 8th, 2026 1-5pm, funeral service at 5pm, and Cemetery graveside comital service April 9th, 2026 1pm at Vestal Hills Cemetery, Vestal NY. A celebration of life for Rose will be announced at a later date.

Linda D. Slack, 80 years old, of Prattsburgh, NY went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She fought a long and courageous battle with cancer with the same strength, determination, and positivity with which she lived all her years.
Linda was born to Ephraim Redmon and Pearl (Houston) Redmon Kiblinger on September 4, 1945, in Salisbury, NC. She graduated high school from Patterson High in Baltimore, MD in 1963. She then graduated from Piedmont Bible College in Winston Salem, NC in 1969 with a degree in Religious Education.
Linda married her devoted husband, David G. Slack, on March 31, 1972, in West Union, NY. Together, they raised a wonderful family and remained together one week shy of 54 years. Linda worked for over 25 years for Steuben County Social Services. She was a member of the Bath American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Linda also volunteered and dedicated over 20 years to the Prattsburgh Food Pantry. She lived by and always exhibited service above self.
Linda is survived by her husband, David Slack Sr., their son David Slack Jr., their daughter Amanda (Steven) Kula and grandchildren Jacob Kula, Nathalya Kula and Abram Kula. She is also survived by her loving sister, Frances Redmon Stribling ( Jimmy) of Albuquerque, NM. Linda also had a close relationship with all her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and her many nieces and nephews and friends.
She always provided a listening ear, advice, words of wisdom and an amazing sense of humor that helped lighten any conversation. Linda had a firm belief that, regardless of the challenges a person faced, they and they alone could choose to become a ‘victim’ or a ‘survivor’. For 80 years of incredible ups and downs, Linda refused to ever consider herself a victim.
Although she is gone now, Linda will be forever remembered by those that knew her as a survivor, inspiring us all to strive to live our own lives with such unshakeable love and determination that even death cannot possibly overcome.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, brothers Donald Redmon and Gary Redmon, and grandson Henry Kula. A celebration of life will be held at the Bath American Legion on April 26th, 2026 1:00PM- 3:00PM.

03/19/2026

Marjorie Ann Wagner (Osborn) passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, with her loving husband by her side. Born a farmer’s daughter to Louise and Stanley Osborn in Arkport, NY in 1939, she carried with her a lifelong appreciation for hard work, humility, and community. Those early roots shaped the woman she became: strong in faith, devoting her life to learning, service, and above all, to people.
After graduating from SUNY Geneseo, she went on to become a beloved math teacher in Springville and West Valley, NY, touching generations of students not only through education, but also through encouragement, kindness, and genuine care. Long after she left the classroom, former students, pastors, and friends continued to share stories of how she had influenced their lives, something she was deeply grateful to hear firsthand.
Her commitment to service extended well beyond her profession. She spent many years actively involved in organizations close to her heart, including 4-H as both a member and a leader, Monday Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Library Board, and numerous church boards and community organizations in both West Valley and Arkport. In each role, she gave freely of her time, her energy, and her steady presence.
She was best known, however, for the roles she cherished most: loving wife to Lewie for nearly 55 years, incredible mother to Lucinda and Corry VanCassele and Will and Amie Wagner, and the proudest Nonny to Natalie, Addie, Teagan, Rylan, and Braden. Her family extends to Norway and Italy, with “foreign exchange sons” Dag and Massimo. It was evident that her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her love into them without measure.
Marge had a gift for connection. Whether through a phone call, a handwritten card, or a batch of her well-known cookies, she found ways to brighten days and make people feel remembered. Serving others came naturally to her, it was simply who she was.
She also shared her love of the Buffalo Bills with her family, making us all lifelong stubborn optimists; never giving up and believing “there’s always next year”.
Marge was preceded in death and welcomed in Heaven by her strong and loving parents, Louise and Stanley Osborn. She is survived by her brothers, Bob (Judy) Osborn and Carlton (Joyce) Osborn; her in-laws, Carl and Sarah Wagner; and many beloved nieces and nephews and cousins, who will miss her deeply.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, built through quiet acts of service, steadfast relationships, and a life spent lifting others. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Marge to the Arkport Public Library, PO Box 1028, Arkport, NY 14807 or an organization of your choice.
Calling hours will be held at the Bender- Brown and Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell on Monday, March 23rd from 3pm to 7pm.
A service for Marge will be held at Bender- Brown and Powers Funeral Home in Hornell on Tuesday, March 24th at 11 am. Burial will be at Fremont Cemetery.

Dawn Louise Miller
ANGELICA- Dawn Louise Miller, 81, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on March 3rd, 2026. She is survived by her beloved dog Kylo, her children, John Gugino, Michelle Ellsessor and Valerie Gugino (Don Coen). Along with her grandchildren Kristen Babbitt (Nate Hunsinger), Brandon Ellsessor (Alex Condon), Luke Ellsessor, Brock Ellsessor, Frank Smith, Nicole (Dustin) Smith, Charlea (Colton) Gascon, Adrian Gugino, Sophia Gugino, Daphne Gugino, and her 26 great grandchildren. Along with many cousins and her best friend of over 40 years, Amy LaForge Hart. Dawn was predeceased by her father Carrol Burdick, her mother Merabah Burdick, and her ex-husband and good friend, Tom Gugino.
Dawn was born on May 28th, 1944 in Hornell, NY. She grew up on her mother and father’s farm in Andover, NY. She was a graduate of Andover Central School class of 1962. During her senior year of high school, she played the French Horn and was a member of the Orchestra, Pep Band, and the Senior Band. After graduating high school, she attended the Olean Business Institute. For most of her life she worked for the Allegany ARC. Dawn had a generous and gracious heart, which was shown every day. While being employed with the ARC, she would bring residents home to celebrate holidays with her family.
Dawn spent most of her life traveling the world. Her children recalled going on a vacation every summer from Florida, to Oklahoma, to the Grand Canyon and everywhere in between. In her later years, she took many cruises with her friend Amy. Together, they traveled through Central America, and Europe. Dawn visited over 10 countries in her life. She loved to tell stories of her travels, and bring home little pieces from around the world. Amy plans to continue their love for traveling and carrying Dawn’s memory and spirit with her to every beautiful place.
Dawn loved her family fiercely with all of her heart. She enjoyed visits from her grandchildren, going on small road trips whenever asked, impromptu dinner or lunches, and sharing her love of reading through trips to the library with family. Her home was the sounding board for her entire family, every wall filled with her family’s love. Thanksgiving and Christmas she would watch over 50 members of her family fill her home with laughter, the patter of children’s feet and conversations from every corner. Dawn was the glue for her family. Her doors were always open, even to those beyond family. Dawn cared deeply for her community, and opened her home to anyone. After graduation Kristen, Frank and Brandon found comfort in living at Grandma’s house. Sophia and Daphne also had the pleasure of living with Grandma for a majority of their lives, alongside their dad, John.
Dawn was an avid knitter, always knitting baby blankets for her new great grandchild. She would donate sweaters, scarves, and baby hats to the hospitals. Dawn always had multiple projects started, with another idea brewing in her mind. Her home was always filled with way too much yarn to know what to do with. When she wasn’t knitting, she was likely reading. It is possible that she read every James Patterson novel ever published. Her love of reading was shared with many of those around her. She would read to all of her family members, and tried to ensure that reading became an important part of their lives as well. Dawn was a proud supporter of music and the arts, attending all of her family’s concerts, recitals, and musicals. She loved listening to live music and attending the theatre. She supported all of her family’s creative pursuits, and loved to watch them perform. Her home was filled with artwork from her family, and her fridge was never empty of their accomplishments. Dawn rescued three dogs from the Allegany County SPCA: Max, Tucker and Kylo. She loved having a companion to watch TV with, take on walks around town, and to spoil. She saw her dogs as her family, and they all loved, and protected her deeply. Grandma’s house would not have been Grandma’s house without her pets.
Dawn had a strong faith and was a regular member of the First Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Church, where she was a clerk and trustee. On Tuesdays, she volunteered her time at the Op Shop run by her church. Chris Mattison was not only her cousin but also her Pastor. He visited her in her home during her last days to sing hymns and bring the blessing of the Lord.
“Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” - John 16: 20-22
Per Dawn’s request, there will be no services. Her family will meet at a later date to celebrate and honor her life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Allegany County SPCA at P.O. Box 381 Belmont, NY 14813.
