🧠 MYTHBUSTING MONDAY
❌ Myth: I can just do physical therapy myself at home.
✅ Truth: Your participation is essential — but expert guidance matters.

Yes, home exercises are an important part of recovery.
But physical therapy is far more than a generic stretch routine from the internet.
Physical therapists use advanced education and clinical expertise to:
• Evaluate movement patterns
• Identify the true root cause of pain
• Diagnose dysfunction
• Design a personalized treatment plan
• Progress exercises safely and effectively

Many treatments — like manual therapy, joint mobilization, balance training, and neuromuscular re-education — require skilled, hands-on care you simply can’t replicate on your own.
Doing the wrong exercise (or doing the right one incorrectly) can delay recovery — or even make things worse.
The best results come from a combination of:
✔ Expert evaluation
✔ Guided treatment
✔ A personalized home program
You don’t have to figure it out alone.

Have you ever tried to “Google” your way through pain? 😅 Let us know below.

🧠 MYTHBUSTING MONDAY
❌ Myth: My physical therapist is going to tell me to stop doing the things I love.
✅ Truth: Physical therapists help you get BACK to what you love.

PT isn’t about taking activities away — it’s about helping you return to them safely and confidently.
Whether it’s:
• Golf
• Pickleball
• Running
• Gardening
• Playing with your grandkids
• Lifting at the gym
• Hiking
• Or simply walking without pain

Your therapist works with you to set meaningful goals based on your lifestyle.
Instead of saying “stop,” we focus on:
✔ Modifying when necessary
✔ Strengthening weak areas
✔ Improving mobility
✔ Correcting movement patterns
✔ Building tolerance gradually
The goal isn’t restriction — it’s restoration.
You shouldn’t have to give up the activities that bring you joy.

🌿 It's Who's Who Wednesday, and today we're introducing one of our own — Jeremy Meshell, PTA at VGPT East! 🌿
Jeremy grew up in Strong, Arkansas, and his journey into physical therapy started in a very personal way — an ACL surgery on his own knee opened his eyes to the profession and he never looked back. After completing his degree at South Arkansas College, he's spent the last 8 years helping patients get back to doing what they love.
When it comes to what drives him, Jeremy keeps it simple: "Patients improving — that's why we do it." 💪
Outside the clinic, you'll find Jeremy hunting, fishing, or out on the golf course. He recently relocated to the Hot Springs area with his wife and their little boy, and he shares that growing closer to God since the move has brought a deeper sense of purpose to his life. 🙏
We are so grateful to have Jeremy on our team at VGPT East. His dedication to his patients and his genuine heart for the work he does makes him a true asset to our clinic family.
Give Jeremy a warm welcome in the comments! 👇

🧠 MYTHBUSTING MONDAY
❌ Myth: Physical therapy isn’t covered by insurance.
✅ Truth: Most insurance plans do cover physical therapy.
Many private insurance plans, workers’ comp policies, and even Medicare include PT benefits (though coverage details can vary).

And here’s something even more important:

Physical therapy doesn’t just help you feel better — it can actually reduce overall healthcare costs.
Research shows PT can help patients avoid:
• Unnecessary imaging • Surgery • Long-term prescription medications • Chronic, worsening conditions
Early intervention often means fewer complications and lower expenses down the road.

PT is not just effective — it’s cost-conscious care.

If you’re unsure about your coverage, our team can help you verify benefits and understand your options.

🏌️‍♂️ FAQ Friday: Flexibility vs. Strength for Golf?
👉 Answer: Yes.

When it comes to improving your golf game, it’s not about choosing between flexibility or strength — you need both working together.

🧘‍♂️ Flexibility allows your body to:
✔️ Achieve a full backswing
✔️ Rotate properly through the hips and upper back
✔️ Maintain solid posture and sequencing from the ground up

Many common swing faults—like early extension, casting, or coming over the top—often stem from limited mobility, especially in the hips, thoracic spine, and shoulders.

💪 Strength, on the other hand:
✔️ Helps you control and stabilize your swing
✔️ Adds power and consistency
✔️ Reduces risk of injury

But here’s the key 👇
If your body can’t get into the right positions, strength alone won’t fix the problem.

👉 Mobility unlocks your swing. Strength supports it.

🏁 Bottom line from PT Randy:
Both flexibility and strength are essential for a sound, efficient golf swing—and for staying injury-free.

It's Who's Who Wednesday — and today we're spotlighting the man, the myth, the legend... the one who signs everyone's paychecks... Lee Sowerbutts! 👏

Lee is our Owner and Physical Therapist here at SCT and VGPT. He went to PT school (we think), has been licensed since roughly the Jurassic period, and his favorite patient is whoever tips best. 💸

His hobbies include signing paychecks and crying softly, and he got into PT after losing a bet — a decision he has never once regretted (publicly).

Oh, and yes — Sowerbutts is his real last name. We checked. Multiple times.

We love you, Lee. Happy April Fools' Day! 🎊

🧠 MYTHBUSTING MONDAY
❌ Myth: Surgery is my only option for pain relief.
✅ Truth: For many conditions, physical therapy has been shown to be just as effective as surgery.
Research has found that PT can be equally effective for certain conditions such as:
• Rotator cuff tears • Meniscal tears • Degenerative disc disease • Spinal stenosis • Some forms of knee osteoarthritis
That doesn’t mean surgery is never necessary — but it does mean surgery isn’t always the first step.
Physical therapy offers a:
✔ Safe ✔ Non-invasive ✔ Evidence-based ✔ Lower-risk alternative
Trying conservative care first can often reduce pain, improve function, and help you avoid unnecessary procedures.
The best plan is one that fits your condition, your goals, and your lifestyle — and in many cases, PT is a smart place to start.
Before considering surgery, ask: “Have I explored physical therapy?”

🧠 MYTHBUSTING MONDAY
❌ Myth: Physical therapists are basically the same as personal trainers.
✅ Truth: Physical therapists are highly trained medical professionals.

All physical therapists must:
🎓 Complete a 3-year doctoral program (Doctor of Physical Therapy – DPT) 📚 Pass a national licensing exam 📖 Maintain ongoing continuing education 🧠 Train extensively in anatomy, biomechanics, pathology, and rehabilitation

PTs are healthcare providers and movement specialists trained to:
• Diagnose movement dysfunction • Treat injury and post-surgical conditions • Manage chronic and neurological conditions • Develop rehabilitation plans based on medical complexity
Personal trainers play an important role in fitness and wellness — but physical therapists are uniquely trained to work with pain, injury, medical diagnoses, and recovery.

If you’re dealing with pain, mobility limitations, or recovering from surgery, a PT’s medical training matters.

Movement is our specialty — but healing is our profession.

⏱️ FAQ Friday ⏱️
How soon should I start physical therapy after an injury?

Sooner is usually better. 👌

Starting physical therapy early can help reduce pain, prevent long-term issues, and get you back to doing what you love faster. Our physical therapists can evaluate your injury, begin treatment, and guide you on next steps—referring you to a physician if needed.
Don’t wait for an injury to become a chronic problem.

🧠 MYTHBUSTING MONDAY
❌ Myth: I need a doctor’s referral to see a physical therapist.
✅ Truth: In most states, you can see a physical therapist without a referral.
It’s called Direct Access — and it allows patients to start PT sooner, without waiting for a physician appointment.
That means if you’re dealing with:
• Back or neck pain • Shoulder or knee issues • Balance problems • Dizziness • Chronic aches • Or movement concerns
You can often schedule directly with a PT.
⚠️ A few important notes: • Some insurance plans (like Medicare) may require a referral for coverage. • Many private insurance plans do not. • It’s always smart to check your benefits first.
The biggest takeaway?
You don’t necessarily have to wait to start feeling better.
Early treatment often means faster recovery.

🌟 It's Who's Who Wednesday at VGPT! 🌟
This week we're shining the spotlight on one of our amazing team members — Kayla Williams, PTA at VGPT East! 💪
Kayla has been part of the VGPT family for nearly two years, and if you've been to our East clinic, you already know she brings the energy, the laughs, and the heart every single day. She got into physical therapy for the best reason there is — to help others — and she proves that every time she helps a patient get back on their feet (literally!).
Her specialty? Knees. Her superpower? Watching patients make real, meaningful improvements and knowing she played a part in that journey. 🙌
Outside the clinic, Kayla is a full-time sports mom (self-described "unpaid taxi driver" 🚕😂) cheering on her 10-year-old, and when she's not on the sidelines, you'll find her dragging her husband and son up and down the mountain trails of Arkansas. 🏔️
We are so grateful to have you on our team, Kayla! Our patients are lucky to have someone who cares as much as you do. ❤️
👇 Drop a ❤️ in the comments if Kayla has been part of your care team!
