March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month!

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. among cancers that affect both men and women -but it doesn’t have to be. Screening starting at age 45 can save lives by finding abnormal growths before they turn into cancer.

Know the risk factors.
Know the symptoms.
Get screened.

You may be at higher risk if you have a family history of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or certain genetic conditions. Symptoms can include changes in bowel habits, blood in or on your stool, ongoing abdominal pain, or unexplained weight loss, however many people have no symptoms at first.

Talk to your healthcare provider about the screening test that’s right for you. Early detection saves lives. 🩵

This month we’re celebrating an incredible milestone - 30 years of service from Teresa Franklin! 🎉

For three decades, Teresa has been a dedicated part of HSHP, serving in our pharmacies and caring for the patients and communities who rely on us every day. She has worked at all four of our centers over the years, but for the last 25 years, Laurel has been home, both professionally and personally. It’s the community she proudly calls home, alongside her beloved cats, Ed and Molly.

When asked about her time here, Teresa shared that she has met and worked with a LOT of interesting people over the years and has made lifelong friends along the way.

Teresa, thank you for 30 years of commitment, compassion, and service. HSHP is stronger because of you, and we are so grateful for the impact you’ve made across all of our centers ❤

Today we recognize National Caregivers Day, a time to honor the compassion, strength, and selflessness of caregivers everywhere. Whether you’re a family member caring for a loved one at home or part of a professional care team, your dedication makes an incredible difference in the lives of others.

Caregiving can be deeply meaningful, but it can also be exhausting and overwhelming at times. That’s why our Home Care and Hospice programs are here: to provide support, guidance, and compassionate care for both patients AND the family members who love them. You don’t have to carry it all alone.

To every caregiver: we see you, we appreciate you, and we’re here for you!

Measles cases are on the rise in North Carolina, and staying informed helps keep our community healthy. Measles is highly contagious, can be dangerous, and can linger in the air for up to 2 hours after someone leaves an enclosed space. Please see the images below to learn more.

If you or your child are showing symptoms, please call before visiting so we can protect patients, families, and staff.

Vaccination is the safest and most effective way to prevent measles, we can help with that! HSHP is here to help every step of the way. 💙

Happy Valentine’s Day from HSHP! 💖

Tomorrow is all about love, it’s ALSO National Donor Day, a time to celebrate the incredible gift of life that organ, tissue, blood, and marrow donors provide.

While we don’t recommend literally giving away your heart today 😄❤️, becoming an organ donor is one of the most powerful ways to share love with others. Did you know that one donor can save up to eight lives and improve dozens more?

So as you’re celebrating the people who make your heart happy, consider registering as an organ donor, and help make someone else’s heart beat a little longer. 💓

Gene Flynn, known around these parts as Gene-o, has been helping to keep communication running smoothly at Hot Springs Health Program for 20 years. In 2006 Gene was hired to help with a two week electrical contract, but after applying for an open courier position, he quickly became a permanent and invaluable part of our team.

Each day, Gene picks up and delivers our mail from the post office and travels to every center, transporting important items internally and ensuring that every medical record, medication, document, and package gets exactly where it needs to go, and to the people who need it. His reliability and dedication help keep our entire organization running seamlessly.

Always ready with a laugh and a smile, Gene brightens every room he walks into. Please join us in celebrating and thanking Gene for all he does - we couldn’t do it without him! 🎉👏

Feeling slug-ish, bloated, or just not at your MVP level after yesterday’s Super Bowl spread? 🏈😅
That's Ok! Today is all about the comeback! Here are a few easy ways to reset and feel good:

💧 Hydrate: Rehydrate with plenty of water to help flush out sodium, boost energy, and kick-start digestion.

🏃‍♀️ Get moving: A short walk, gentle stretch, or light workout can get your blood flowing and shake off that sluggish feeling.

🥦 Eat fresh: Focus on fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and whole foods to refuel your body and balance things out.

😴 Rest & recover: Quality sleep and downtime help your body recharge and get back to feeling its best.

Small steps today = big wins tomorrow.
