Food security is a key social determinant of health, and too many Michigan families still struggle to get enough to eat.

In 2021, nearly 1.2 million Michiganders faced food insecurity, even as millions of pounds of food went to waste.

You can be part of the solution this by:
✅ Learning how to read food labels so safe, usable food isn’t thrown away.
✅ Understanding legal protections for donating food to local pantries and food banks.
✅ Exploring tax incentives for businesses that donate food.

Check out the new MDHHS Food Donation webpage to learn how you can help prevent food loss and fight hunger: bit.ly/MDHHSFoodDonation.

Did you know that 1 in 7 pregnant patients experiences food insecurity, increasing the risk for low birth weight and other complications?

The Centering Pregnancy Pantry is helping change that by providing nutrient-dense food and nutrition support right within prenatal care. This approach is improving pregnancy weight gain, reducing low-birth-weight risk, and supporting healthier outcomes for moms and babies.

A huge thank-you to Kelly Ellis for her leadership and dedication to making this program possible and advancing health equity in our community.
