Ascent Houma

Ascent Houma What started as a small non-profit in 2012, Ascent Health, Inc. Here at Ascent, we believe everyone has been empowered with unique gifts and responsibilities.

(then Wraparound) has focused on influencing the community for good, and working with children and families in hopes of making a difference. Since then, we’ve continued to expand and grow by simply loving people and doing what we say we’re going to do. We believe every story matters. We help people find success in life and strive to elevate people from where they are today to where they can be tomorrow. By joining with others, lasting change and success can happen. We strive to be an organization that continues to see the light within others. We all need people in our community to surround us when our weaknesses seem to overcome. It is our desire to help people find hope and strength in the journey.

Meet 18 year old Courtney...

What started out in a psychiatric facility, ended with Courtney finding stability, emotional and situational, and hope for her own future.

Read Courtney's story below:

Courtney, an eighteen year old... Referred to Ascent by a psychiatric facility after she had almost taken her life, was diagnosed with depression and bipolar disorder.  Courtney was living with her brother and his girlfriend because her mother had passed away in a car accident seven years earlier.....

As parents in today’s world, we have a lot on our plates. Because of that, it’s easy to get so wrapped up in the daily struggles of parenting that you forget to stop and tell your child how much you love them.

Not only do kids with affectionate parents do better in school and develop a healthy self-esteem, they also end up emotionally happier and less anxious as adults. Parental warmth even has an impact on your child’s physical health.

The holidays are often painted as a season of joy, but we know that for many, Christmas can also carry a heavy emotional toll. Grief, stress, loneliness, and exhaustion don't take a holiday break.

This season, we want to pause and acknowledge those feelings without judgement and pressure to be okay.

If you're carrying more than you can hold right now, please know you're not alone. There is strength in asking for support, and hope in being seen.

From all of us at Ascent, we're sending love, grace, and understanding this Christmas and New Year.

Since 2014, our Ascent Houma office has had the privilege of walking alongside more than 3,091 youth and their families. We have watched children come into our services wanting to take their own lives and two years later, been able to cheer them on as they cross a stage to receive a diploma. The journey was never easy. Many times, we sat together in the office wondering what we could do differently. There were moments when staff cried together, sought guidance, and sat with questions we couldn’t yet answer. But every small victory offered a bit of hope that carried us forward to the next moment, the next breakthrough. It was a hope we needed to keep going.

We are deeply honored that families have welcomed us into their homes, their hearts, and this chapter of their lives. It is your strength and courage that inspires us to continue, and we are truly grateful for you.
