At a busy office, a 55-year-old man suddenly collapses near his desk. A coworker checks on him and finds he is unresponsive and not breathing normally—only occasional gasping sounds. The coworker immediately calls out for help. Another employee dials 911 while someone else rushes to bring the office’s AED. The first responder begins chest compressions, pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest at about 100–120 compressions per minute. When the AED arrives, they power it on, place the pads on the man’s chest, and follow the voice prompts. The device advises a shock, which they deliver before resuming CPR. They continue cycles of 30 compressions and 2 breaths, switching rescuers when tired, until paramedics arrive to take over.

First Aid Scenario on the Beach

On a sunny afternoon at a crowded beach, a teenager steps on a sharp seashell buried in the sand and suffers a deep cut on the bottom of their foot. Blood begins to pool quickly, and the teen is in pain and unable to walk. A nearby lifeguard is alerted and rushes over. Wearing gloves, the lifeguard applies direct pressure with a sterile gauze pad to stop the bleeding, elevates the foot, and reassures the teen to keep them calm. Once the bleeding is controlled, the wound is cleaned with saline and wrapped securely. The lifeguard advises the teen’s parent to take them to urgent care to check for possible stitches and a tetanus update.

First Aid Scenario While Camping:

While setting up camp near a wooded trail, a camper accidentally cuts their hand with a pocketknife while slicing rope. The cut is deep and begins bleeding heavily. A fellow camper quickly grabs the first aid kit, puts on gloves, and applies firm pressure with a clean gauze pad to control the bleeding. Once the bleeding slows, the wound is gently cleaned with antiseptic wipes, covered with a sterile dressing, and wrapped with a bandage. The injured camper is kept calm and monitored for signs of shock. Since the cut may require stitches, the group decides to hike back to the trailhead and transport the camper to the nearest medical facility.

First Aid Scenario During Police Training:

During a high-intensity obstacle course in police training, a cadet missteps while scaling a wall and lands awkwardly on his ankle, immediately collapsing in pain. A nearby instructor halts the exercise and calls for medical assistance. The cadet reports severe pain and an inability to bear weight on the injured leg. A first aid responder quickly assesses the injury, noting swelling and deformity suggestive of a possible fracture. The ankle is stabilized using a splint, and the cadet is advised not to move. Ice is applied to reduce swelling, and he is reassured while waiting for an ambulance to transport him to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

First Aid Scenario at a Water Park:

While enjoying a sunny day at the water park, a 10-year-old boy slips on the wet concrete near the wave pool and hits his head on the ground. Lifeguards immediately clear the area and call for first aid. The child is conscious but dazed, with a visible bump forming on his forehead and a small abrasion. A trained first aider arrives, ensures the boy remains still, and begins monitoring him for signs of concussion such as confusion, dizziness, and nausea. An ice pack is gently applied to reduce swelling, and the child is comforted and kept awake while his parents are contacted. EMS is called to further evaluate him in case of a more serious head injury.
