Director of the Menopause Center at TCH-PFW, Dr. Nina Ali ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ shares important updates ๐Ÿ“‹from the 2025 Annual Menopause Society Meeting โฌ‡๏ธ

โบ๏ธ Perimenopause symptoms can be subtle, and there's not a blood test, symptom, or menstrual cycle pattern that can diagnose it. It starts when patients note "something has changed".

โบ๏ธ Menopausal hormone therapy remains the gold standard for treatment of hot flashes and night sweats - endorsed by all medical societies.

โบ๏ธ Hot flashes and night sweats are associated with decreased cardiovascular and cognitive/mental health.

โบ๏ธ Many random menopause symptoms are real (like ringing ears and even burning mouth!).

โบ๏ธ Breast MRI is emerging as an additional breast cancer screening tool for women with dense breasts.

โบ๏ธ Menopause worsens body composition even if weight remains same.

โบ๏ธ Poor sleep is a major contributor to weight gain and worse metabolic health.

โบ๏ธ Heart disease is a huge issue in peri- and menopausal women, and perimenopause is key time to optimize blood pressure and cholesterol (besides hormones).

โบ๏ธ Hormone therapy is weight neutral.

โบ๏ธ Bone loss starts before onset of menopause.

โบ๏ธ Current research data does not support testosterone for anything other than libido. Research is ongoing.

โบ๏ธ A new nonhormonal medication was just approved by the FDA and will be available later this year.

Visit The Menopause Society for more updates!
