My life with autism: Jaxon’s sensory issues and food choices!

My 8 year old son has gone from milk (as a baby)
to eating some food as a toddler
To eating food that couldnt be broken or cracked
To eating hot dogs and rice every single day and yogurt
To eating McDonald’s chicken nuggets and fries, some fruit, some chips, some fruit snacks, pancakes, or waffles
To eating McDonalds chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, cucumbers, bacon, fruit snacks, cantaloupe, bananas, hash browns from McDonald’s, homemade tacos, toast, and special k cereal with red berries

Tonight’s dinner - cucumbers, bacon, fries. I’ll take the small wins!

Food is always a struggle from the smell, texture, or sight of it. If he likes it, I try to keep it in the rotation, then he gets tired of it and doesn’t want it at all. 🧩❤️

It was the best thing ever to attend meet the teacher tonight and be informed by my son’s teachers that they already had his IEP when I introduced myself. I always attend “meet the teacher” because I want to be clear on the teachers knowing that my son has autism prior to school starting and I want to be a partner in shaping his environment. We as parents are the best advocates for our children. I was asked questions like, “how can I help him?” “What are some important things to know?” That meant the world to me and I look forward to a wonderful school year! Be their voice!
