This Valentine’s Day give yourself permission to try something new with your partner(s), to revel in being single, to grieve the loss of a loved one, to eat chocolate without “making up for it” later, to embrace being aromantic, to celebrate or cry over a divorce or break-up, and to prioritize your mental health! Happy Valentine’s Day from Brittany and Amanda at Autumn Counseling!

Meet Our Staff!

Amanda Austin, LMSW
Supervised by Brittany Burch, LCSW-S, LCDC, CGP

I’m Amanda Austin, LMSW, a Licensed Master Social Worker, and I’m delighted to be a part of Autumn Counseling. My passion is to provide integrative counseling and psychotherapy services to adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I am dedicated to partnering with you on your individual journey to mental and emotional healing and wellness. I work through a trauma-informed, person-centered lens to address a wide range of emotional and interpersonal challenges. My goal is to create a safe, empathetic, and empowering environment for you to explore and navigate your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This may include addressing difficulties associated with depression, anxiety & mood disorders, grief and loss, relationship and family dynamics, LGBTQIA+ well-being & identity, eating disorders, and healing your relationship with food and your body.
After receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Indiana University in 2001, I spent 14-years working in educational leadership and development. In 2018 I earned my Master’s in Social Work degree from the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work. As part of my program, I was afforded the opportunity to intern with Communities In Schools at Lone Star Community College and the Montrose Center. During this time, I also worked as a mental health advisor / residential advisor at the Menninger Clinic and Pathfinder (their community integration program) and as a Hurricane Harvey recovery support specialist with Communities in Schools. Prior to joining Autumn Counseling, I was a primary therapist at Center For Discovery, dedicated to eating disorder recovery and helping individuals make peace with food and their bodies. Currently I am a member of the Houston Eating Disorders Specialists and the National Association of Social Workers. As a therapist at Autumn Counseling, I cherish the opportunity I am given to partner with clients from diverse backgrounds, each with unique needs, experiences, challenges, goals, and motivations. When I am not practicing at Autumn, I love snuggling with my dog Lola, spending time by the water, and enjoying laughs and meals with friends and family. It is truly my privilege to hold space for your story and work alongside you in creating a life most meaningful to you.

Meet Our Staff!

Brittany Burch, LCSW-S, LCDC, CGP*, and owner of Autumn Counseling, Inc.

I am so happy you have found your way here! I’ve been a therapist since 2006 when I graduated from Washington University in St Louis with a master’s degree in social work. I moved to Houston for a one year fellowship at the Menninger Clinic, and over a decade later Houston has become more than just my residence, it’s my home. After two years at the Menninger Clinic, I began what would become a decade of work at the Montrose Center. There I served an array of individuals, couples, and families addressing both everyday struggles and complex challenges. After 10 years of highly meaningful work with clients, supervising staff and overseeing their clinical internship training program, I realized I was ready to launch into my lifelong vision of owning a private practice. I am delighted to continue to practice as a clinical social worker and deepen my work utilizing evidence-based approaches including emotionally focused therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), emotionally focused therapy for couples and families, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I am also a licensed chemical dependency counselor, and work with many clients in their struggles with addiction to alcohol, drugs, po*******hy and other challenges. Today I’m a happy, glass half full type of person and therapist who cannot imagine another profession I would rather do. When I’m not working with my clients or building my practice, I enjoy cooking, baking, traveling, exercise, jigsaw puzzles and volunteering with the American Red Cross in their disaster response team. I am on the Board for the Houston Group Psychotherapy Society and love working with groups! I am blessed to be one of the few who knew my calling early and was able to manifest it with the help of many friends and family. Every day I am grateful for the work I get to do with my clients, and for being a part of their transition from fear, despair, desperation and hopelessness to one of meaning, resiliency and hope. That’s a bit about me…I hope to learn more about you.

*What do all those letters mean? I have a clinical license in social work and am a supervisor for post graduate masters in social work (LCSW-S), am a licensed chemical dependency counselor (LCDC) and am certified as a group psychotherapist (CGP).
