GLP-1 medications are widely discussed, but there’s also a lot of misinformation.

These medications are not a quick fix or a one-size-fits-all solution. Clinical guidance supports their use in specific patients, as part of a comprehensive plan that includes lifestyle changes and ongoing medical supervision.

They work by mimicking a natural hormone involved in appetite regulation and blood sugar control, supporting both metabolic health and, in some cases, weight management.

The most important step is understanding what’s appropriate for your individual health.

If you’re considering weight loss options, a medical evaluation can help guide safe and effective care.

Your health starts with prevention 🩺

A lot of people skip their yearly physical because they don’t know what it includes, or they don’t think they need it. Here’s what you actually get:

🔵 Vitals & Measurements
Blood pressure, height, weight & BMI are checked at every visit. The physical exam includes blood pressure screening and height and weight measurements to calculate body mass index.

🔵 Health & Family History Review
The medical history focuses on to***co and alcohol use, risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and diet and exercise habits.

🔵 Preventive Lab Work
Based on your age and risk factors, cholesterol, blood sugar, thyroid, CBC and more. A fasting or non-fasting lipid profile is recommended when an adult enters care at a new practice, with rescreening as part of cardiovascular risk analysis every five years.

🔵 Mental Health Screening
The Annual Wellness Visit assesses emotional and psychological well-being, in addition to physical well-being.

🔵 Personalized Prevention Plan
The purpose of the wellness visit is to review the patient’s wellness and develop a personalized prevention plan.

🔵 Vaccine Review
Your doctor reviews which immunizations are due or overdue: flu, Tdap, shingles, pneumonia and more.

🔵 Cancer Screenings (age-based)
Cervical, colorectal, breast, and skin cancer screenings are ordered based on your age and risk profile per AAFP & USPSTF guidelines.

🔵 Medication Review
All current medications are reviewed for safety, interactions, and continued need.

How often should you go?
A physical should be performed once a year for adults ages 19–49, and every year for adults ages 50 and older

Most Annual Exams are covered by Insurance.

You’re ignoring this nutrient… and it’s affecting your whole body.

Fiber is a type of carbohydrate found in plant-based foods that your body can’t fully digest, but that’s exactly what makes it so beneficial. According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, it helps move food through your digestive system, supports gut health, and plays a key role in overall wellness.

It’s also one of the most overlooked essentials for long-term health. Fiber can help lower cholesterol, support heart health, and keep blood sugar levels stable, yet most people still aren’t getting enough.

The good news? It doesn’t require a major diet change. Adding more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes into your routine can make a meaningful difference over time. Consistency is what matters most.

Young & Healthy? You Still Need Labs.
Medical guidelines say so, and your body will thank you.

Many young adults skip routine bloodwork because they “feel fine.” But feeling fine doesn’t mean everything is fine. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) supports evidence-based screening that starts earlier than most people think.

What the AAFP & guidelines recommend for young adults:

🔬 Blood Sugar / Diabetes
Screening for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes is recommended for adults with overweight or obesity starting at age 40, but if you have risk factors like family history or excess weight, your doctor may screen you earlier.

🔬 Cholesterol / Lipids
Men aged 20–35 should be screened for lipid disorders if they are at increased risk for coronary disease. Don’t assume you’re too young.

🔬 Blood Pressure
The AAFP recommends preventive services based on the highest certainty of net benefit, and hypertension screening applies to all adults.

🔬 Depression Screening
Depression screening is recommended every year from ages 18–21.

🔬 STI / HIV Screening
Recommended for all sexually active adults regardless of age.

🔬 Obesity / BMI
The AAFP recommends screening all adults for obesity using BMI.

Routine labs are how your doctor catches what you can’t feel yet. Guidelines exist for a reason, and young adults are not exempt.

🚨 Colorectal cancer often develops without symptoms in its early stages.

That’s why screening is critical, even if you feel well.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF):
✔️ Routine colorectal cancer screening should begin at age 45 for average-risk adults
✔️ Screening can detect precancerous polyps before they turn into cancer
✔️ Early detection significantly improves outcomes and survival

🚩 Do not ignore warning signs:
• Blood in stool
• Persistent changes in bowel habits
• Abdominal pain or cramping
• Unexplained weight loss
• Ongoing fatigue

These symptoms are not normal and should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, but only if it’s caught early.

If you are 45 or older, or experiencing symptoms, it’s time to take action.

🚶‍♀️ Why Walking Is One of the Best Exercises

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), regular physical activity can help:
❤️ Reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke
🩸 Improve blood pressure and blood sugar control
⚖️ Support healthy weight management
🧠 Improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
🦴 Maintain muscle strength and joint function

Adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week, such as brisk walking.

Even short walks throughout the day can contribute to these health benefits. Consistency over time is key.

If you’re getting started, begin gradually and increase your duration and pace as tolerated.

Your health doesn’t require extreme changes, just consistent, sustainable habits.

How many minutes are you walking each day? 👇
