Spinal Disc:
A spongy cushion that separates vertebral bodies in the spine. It helps with shock absorption and stability.
Types of Disc Herniations:
Degeneration - Aging-related wear and tear
Prolapse - Lifting, sitting long periods of time, weight-bearing sports, smoking, obesity
Extrusion - Injury, trauma, overexertion, illness or obesity
Sequestration - All mentioned with severe compression of the spinal nerve roots
Most common causes: car accidents, trauma, weakness of the spine, and weight-bearing sports.
All of these are able to produce radicular symptoms. Confirm with MRI imaging.
