Helping Kids Stay Healthy With Diabetes During Kidney Month and Beyond

Kids living with diabetes work hard every day to stay healthy, and Legacy Community Health is here to support them and their families every step of the way.

March is National Kidney Month, which is an important reminder that caring for diabetes also means caring for kidney health. Kidneys help keep the body balanced, and healthy habits can make a big difference for children managing diabetes.

Each year, we recognize the vision and sacrifice of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to uplift all Americans.

This year, we also take a moment to recognize the work Legacy does as an organization to push that vision forward.

Legacy Community Health, Legacy Pharmacies, and Wellness Bar by Legacy will be closed on Monday, January 19 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.

Our pediatric walk-in clinic at Legacy Southwest (6441 High Star Drive, Houston, TX 77074) will be open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Our normal hours of operation will resume on Tuesday, January 20.

🕯️✨ World AIDS Day at The DeLUXE Theater ✨🕯️

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an evening of remembrance and resilience as we recommitted to ending HIV together.

Legacy has been leading this fight since the early 1980s, and our education, prevention, and treatment programs remain at the heart of our mission.

Highlights from the night included:

We were honored to accept a proclamation from Mayor John Whitmire, officially recognizing World AIDS Day in Houston.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners—Houston Health Department, Allies In Hope Houston, Harris County Public Health, The T.R.U.T.H. Project, The Missouri City TX Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and The Normal Anomaly Inc.—and to everyone who attended, performed, and shared their voices.

Together, we honor those we’ve lost, support those living with HIV, and continue working toward a future free of stigma.

Every year, we observe Veterans Day to recognize those who have served our nation as part of our armed forces. We honor these individuals for their sacrifice and devotion, here at Legacy and across the country.

Joseph Mayers, United States Army - "This day is a day to reflect on the current serving military members and the sacrifice their families make while a service member is away from home."

Melody Gray, United States Air Force - "As the daughter of a World War II Veteran, I felt so proud to serve my country. I joined the Air Force from 1983 and served overseas at RAF Bentwaters and Travis AFB in California as an Air Cargo Specialist until 1988. I achieved the rank of Sergeant and received the Meritorious Service Medal for Outstanding Noncombat Meritorious Service in 1987. I am a fierce advocate for Veteran's rights and protections and champion legislation and public support for veterans and their families."

Nelson Matute, Texas State Guard - "This day reminds me of the value of serving my community, the State of Texas and my country with purpose, dedication and selflessness, giving others the chance to be free."

Oliver Peralta, United States Army - "Veterans Day is important to me because it's a time to honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who've served in our armed forces. Last September, we celebrated five incredible years of AmistadesHTX, a community group founded by Legacy’s own Miguel Jacquez, HIV Navigation Specialist. What started as a small gathering has grown into a vibrant movement promoting sexual health, Latinx pride, and connection across Houston.

🩺 September was Sexual Health Awareness Month, and AmistadesHTX is here to remind you: Getting tested is self-care. It’s about protecting yourself, your loved ones, and your community.
