--------------------------------------------

In summer 2001, after building successful private practices in Houston, Drs. Debbie Bootin and Patti Savrick founded this practice with the idea of fulfilling a dual mission — to provide high-quality medical care and to maintain a service-oriented environment. Although medicine is certainly a “service industry,” they felt that personal service was lacking in other clinical settings, in part due to the ever-changing world of health care. Our doctors and medical assistants work to make your experience with us pleasant and efficient, and as always, to keep your children happy and in good health. We provide personalized care to children with needs across the health care spectrum, from chronic and complex medical issues to more routine needs, such as vaccinations and physicals. We have 24 hour on-call pediatric triage. Emergencies can happen after regular office hours, so our doctors and staff are here for you when your child needs us.

--------------------------------------------

Bootin and Savrick Pediatrics encourages you to use Kids' Wellness Tracker, a free app that brings together the tools you need to help manage your children’s health more easily. Learn more at www.kidswellnesstracker.com.

Please note that the Bootin & Savrick page is not monitored daily by our physicians. If you have questions about your child's health, billing inquiries, etc., please contact the office directly by phone at 713-795-9500.

🍼 Paced Bottle Feeding: A Better Way to Bottle-Feed Your Baby 💕

Did you know there’s a way to bottle-feed that mimics breastfeeding and helps your baby eat at their own pace? It’s called paced bottle feeding and it can make a big difference in your baby’s comfort and digestion! 🌟

👶 Why Try Paced Feeding?
✅ Helps prevent overfeeding
✅ Reduces gassiness and spit-up
✅ Supports the transition between breast and bottle
✅ Lets baby listen to their own hunger and fullness cues

💡 How to Do It:

Hold your baby in a semi-upright position — not flat.

Keep the bottle horizontal so milk flows slowly.

Let your baby draw the ni**le into their mouth (don’t force it).

Pause every few sucks to give your baby breaks — just like during breastfeeding.

Switch sides halfway through to support eye and head development.

When a sick kid stays home from school, it’s a good practice to not allow cell phone or tablet use📱. Missing school for sickness should not be a fun experience, it should be viewed as a day to rest and recuperate with the intention of getting back to school as soon as possible. Missing school has huge consequences on a child’s success in the classroom and in life. Even though there are days when kids feel so poorly that they need to stay home, it’s important that this does not become common practice.

The flu is coming in hot!🔥☄️
We are already seeing loads of flu this season! Here are some key tips to help protect your little ones from catching and spreading the flu:

1. Get the flu vaccine.
The best protection starts with the annual flu shot for anyone 6 months and older.
2. Teach good hand hygiene.
Have your child wash their hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water (especially after coughing, sneezing, using the restroom, or before eating). If soap isn’t available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
3. Use cough & sneeze etiquette.
Encourage children to cough or sneeze into their elbow or a tissue, then dispose of the tissue promptly and wash hands.
4. Keep sick kids home.
If your child is running a fever, has a heavy cough, or looks very unwell, it’s best they stay home from school or daycare until they’ve been fever-free for at least 24 hours (without fever-reducing medicine).
5. Clean high-touch surfaces.
Frequently disinfect items like light switches, doorknobs, phones, toys and countertops—flu viruses can linger on surfaces.
6. Boost rest, fluids & nutrition.
A well-rested, well-hydrated child with good nutrition stands a stronger chance of fighting off viruses.

📌 Reminder: If your child has symptoms like high fever, trouble breathing, rapid worsening, or underlying health conditions (like asthma, diabetes or immune issues), call your pediatrician sooner rather than later.
Stay safe, stay rested—and let’s beat this flu season together! 💪

We are in November which means that Thanksgiving is just around the corner! Now is a great time to start talking to your kids about gratitude. Learning to be grateful can improve kids' relationships, ability to empathize, and overall happiness.

How to reinforce the importance of being grateful with your children, and find meaningful ways for them to show their appreciation.

Remember, not all sore throats are strep throat, especially when your child also has viral symptoms such as a runny nose, cough or congestion. If you are unsure or worried that he/she may need antibiotics, please make an appointment with your doctor. But for sure, the vast majority of sore throats this time of year are viral and will get better on their own.
