Meet Megan Fikes, Graduate Student Intern at LNC Wellness Center

Ever feel like you’re swimming against the tide, giving everything you have just to stay afloat, only to feel like the shore keeps drifting further away? That feeling of exhaustion, frustration, and uncertainty? Yeah, Megan gets it.

Megan’s journey to becoming a therapist wasn’t a straight line. She started out on the path to becoming a Physician Assistant, but life had other plans. Through her own experiences with anxiety, OCD, and identity struggles as a biracial woman and adoptee, she realized her true calling was in mental health. She’s lived it, she’s worked through it, and now she’s here to help you do the same.

Therapy with Megan isn’t about “fixing” you, it’s about honoring your story, making sense of your struggles, and reclaiming your strength. She believes healing happens when the mind, body, and soul align, and she’s here to help you navigate that journey.

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, relationship issues, major transitions, or identity concerns, Megan offers a space where you can show up exactly as you are, no judgment, no pressure, just support and real conversations.

Ready to stop treading water and start moving toward healing? Megan is ready to walk beside you. Let’s do this. Click on the link below to work with Megan:

Therapy isn’t just a lifeline when things fall apart, it’s a foundation for building the life you deserve. It’s not just about surviving; it’s about thriving. Therapy helps you break cycles, nurture self-love, and create healthier relationships.

For Black love, this work is revolutionary. Centuries of systemic oppression, generational trauma, and cultural stigmas have tried to disconnect us from our joy and connection. But Black love deserves more. It deserves spaces where healing is prioritized, where generational pain is transformed into generational growth, and where we can love deeply without carrying the weight of unspoken wounds.

Therapy is a tool to reclaim that space. It’s where we unlearn harmful patterns, strengthen communication, and build bonds rooted in understanding and authenticity. Whether you’re loving yourself, your partner, your family, or your community, healing is the foundation for making that love stronger.

At LNC Wellness Center, we see you. We honor the unique challenges and joys of Black love, and we’re here to help you do the work that builds a legacy of connection, care, and freedom.

You and your love deserve healing. Why wait? Start today.

Black history isn’t just about resilience, it’s about wisdom. Long before therapy became a formalized practice, our ancestors were already master healers, using traditions rooted in connection and community. Talking circles, drumming, and storytelling weren’t just cultural practices, they were tools for emotional and spiritual healing.

In talking circles, everyone had a voice. People gathered to share their struggles and triumphs, creating a space where vulnerability was met with support. Drumming wasn’t just music; it was a way to connect with emotions, release tension, and foster unity. And storytelling? It carried our histories, lessons, and hopes from one generation to the next, weaving a shared narrative of survival and strength.

These ancient practices remind us of a fundamental truth: healing starts with connection. Our ancestors knew that we heal best when we’re seen, heard, and held by our community. Modern therapy isn’t separate from this legacy, it’s an extension of it. Therapy gives us a space to reclaim these traditions in a way that meets us where we are today.

At LNC Wellness Center, we honor this rich history by creating a therapeutic space where your story is honored, your emotions are acknowledged, and your healing is prioritized. We’re here to help you reconnect with yourself, your community, and the legacy of healing that runs through your veins.

Ready to reconnect with what’s always been yours? Let’s continue the tradition of healing, together.

Francis Cecil Sumner, ring a bell? If not, it’s time to change that. Known as the “Father of Black Psychology,” Sumner became the first Black psychologist in the United States in 1920. This wasn’t just an academic achievement, it was an act of sheer resilience and defiance against the systemic racism of his time.

Despite facing racial discrimination and limited opportunities, Sumner earned his Ph.D. from Clark University, challenging the status quo and paving the way for future generations of Black psychologists and therapists. His groundbreaking work laid the foundation for understanding how race and culture shape our mental health experiences.

Sumner didn’t just open doors; he kicked them down. His legacy is a reminder that mental health isn’t just personal, it’s political. Prioritizing our mental well-being is a way of honoring the sacrifices and contributions of pioneers like him.

At LNC Wellness Center, we carry Sumner’s torch by creating safe, inclusive spaces for healing. We know that mental health is more than a service; it’s a revolution. Therapy is how we continue the fight he started and make sure his legacy lives on.

Let’s honor Francis Cecil Sumner not just in words but in action. Prioritize your mental health and take the first step in your healing journey today.

Therapy Isn’t Weakness, It’s Resistance

For Black communities, therapy has often felt out of reach. It’s no secret that the mental health field wasn’t designed with us in mind. For decades, systemic barriers, financial inequality, lack of representation, and cultural stigma, have made therapy inaccessible or untrustworthy. Phrases like “just pray about it” or “what happens in this house stays in this house” were born from necessity, a way to survive in systems that didn’t value our emotional well-being.

We deserve more than survival. We deserve healing, thriving, and joy.

Today, we’re rewriting the narrative. Therapy isn’t about weakness; it’s about strength. It’s about breaking the cycles that no longer serve us, facing what feels impossible, and taking back the power that’s always been ours. Seeking therapy is a bold act of resistance against every lie we’ve been told about our worth.

At LNC Wellness Center, we understand the unique challenges Black communities face in the therapy space and we’re here to create something different. A space where your identity is honored, your culture is understood, and your healing is prioritized.

Step into your power. Therapy is the resistance you’ve been waiting for. Start your journey today with us.

Did you know Black therapists have been breaking barriers and redefining the mental health field for decades? Take Mamie Phipps Clark and Kenneth Clark, trailblazing psychologists who played a role in civil rights history. Their groundbreaking research on racial identity and the effects of segregation on Black children wasn’t just academic, it helped lay the foundation for the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision.

Black psychologists like the Clarks didn’t just study the system; they challenged it. They showed the world that identity, race, and mental health are deeply connected and that healing is as much a collective effort as it is personal. Today, their legacy inspires Black therapists everywhere to continue dismantling barriers, decolonizing mental health, and creating spaces for authentic healing.

At LNC Wellness Center, we carry this legacy forward. Therapy here is more than just talking, it’s about showing up for yourself, breaking generational cycles, and reclaiming your story. Because healing is revolutionary, and we’re here to help you lead the charge.

Ready to take the first step? Join the movement. Schedule your free 15-minute consultation today.

Nobody warns you about the cost of dreaming big. They cheer you on, tell you to aim for the stars, and bask in your potential. But what they don’t tell you is that big dreams often come with big sacrifices, sacrifices you might not realize you’re making until it’s too late.

You lose the late-night laughs, the friendships that kept you grounded, the quiet moments that made you feel alive. You climb higher and higher, only to find yourself staring at the ashes of a life built on someone else’s definition of success.

It’s time to hit pause. To stop running. To ask yourself: What do I really want? Who am I doing this for? And what am I sacrificing to get there? This isn’t just about rethinking your goals; it’s about reclaiming your life, your relationships, and your sense of self.

If this resonates with you, read our latest blog post. It’s a raw, unfiltered dive into the hard truths about chasing success and the quiet power of rebuilding on your own terms.

It’s Time to Burn the Rulebook!

Let’s cut through the noise, you’ve been lied to. That little voice in your head that says, “You’re not enough”? It’s not yours. It never was.

We've posted a new blog post that dives deep into why we feel this way and how we can stop playing their rigged game. It’s raw, it’s real, and it might just change the way you see yourself forever.

You’re not broken. You don’t need fixing. You’ve had the scissors to cut their leash all along. The question is, will you use them?

Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As Dr. King once said: "Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can't ride you unless your back is bent."

This powerful reminder calls us to stand tall in the face of adversity, injustice, and self-doubt. By straightening our backs, standing firm in our values, seeking support, and embracing healing, we can rise above the weight of what holds us down and create lasting change.

On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, let’s reflect on how we can show up for ourselves and our communities. Healing is part of the struggle, and sometimes that means seeking help to lighten the load.

At LNC Wellness Center, our therapists are here to hold space for you, providing a safe, compassionate environment to process your experiences and work toward personal growth. Whether it’s finding your strength, rediscovering hope, or just having someone to listen, we’re here for you.

Let’s continue Dr. King’s mission of building a world rooted in dignity, justice, and care, starting with how we care for ourselves and each other.
