Today, the 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band would like to announce a significant transition in the leadership of its world-renowned drum corps. After 21 years as Leading Drummer, Drew Duthart will be stepping down from his leadership role due to health challenges requiring a hip replacement, which currently prevents him from performing with a snare drum and harness.
While stepping away from his leadership position, Drew will remain an active and valued member of the 78th. He will continue to provide guidance, mentorship, and support to the drum corps (and the pipe corps!) and looks forward to returning to performance when his health permits.
The band is pleased to announce that Kyle Wardell will assume the role of Leading Drummer. A long-standing member of the drum corps and professional soloist, Kyle has been mentored by Drew for the past 13 years and represents both continuity and forward momentum for the organization. His deep understanding of the corpsβ musical identity and standards ensures the band remains in strong and capable hands.
This leadership transition comes as the 78th prepares for an exciting season, including participation in the prestigious pre-Worlds concert this year in Glasgow, Wednesday, August 12. The band remains committed to excellence and looks forward to building on its legacy with both respect for its past and confidence in its future.
