"On April 2nd, our hospice liaison was asked to consult on a potential patient in the ICU at OakBend Medical Center. After consulting, the patient verbalized he would like to marry his long term girlfriend and high school sweetheart, not knowing what tomorrow was going to bring and uncertainty of his health. Melissa, the Fairmont hospice liaison, was presented with this challenge as well getting him home safely with services. With the blessing of the family, she carefully coordinated reaching out to many community resources, including her own team mates at Fairmont Hospice, The Oak Bend ICU team, Fort Bend County JP and Fort Bend County Judges . We planned a chapel wedding, with a pastor to officiate the ceremony. With the help of the ICU team, they provided a bouquet, clothing for the patient to be married in as well as light snacks and a wedding cake. We all worked diligently to make this couples dream come true. On April 2nd, at 645 they were pronounced husband and wife, the patient has been discharged home where they will continue making memories together as husband and wife. We would like to personally thank everyone’s efforts in making this event successful, as well as the family for allowing us to be a part of something so special."
