Education is a key component of the work done through the CHRISTUS School Clinics. Four years ago, the School Clinics saw a need to help combat early childhood obesity by providing nutrition education to students. In collaboration with the Houston Food Bank and the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, they developed a seven-week program that not only taught healthy nutrition habits but also integrated nutrition into the school curriculum. On Saturday, CHRISTUS St. Mary’s Clinic in partnership with the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston hosted their annual Back To School Clinic Day for Catholic school students. In addition to free sports physicals provided through the clinic, the event offered free vaccinations through CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinics and free dental exams through UT Health Dental School. Forty children received dental screenings, 70 children received vaccinations, and 180 children received sports physicals. Thanks to our event volunteers including many of our local staff as well as volunteer physicians and associates from CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic in Tyler.
