It doesn’t matter what you ate or how much you exercised last week. Today is a new day, and you deserve to eat and to rest.

Don’t get caught up in the diet talk this holiday season about “making up for” foods eaten, or exercising extra to prepare for a big meal.

If you like running, cool. If you don’t, know that you don’t have to go for a run on Thanksgiving, or any day for that matter.

You don’t have to make up for food you eat, whether before or after exercise.

We hope you enjoy thanksgiving just the way you want to this year, no guilt ❤️

It’s projection at its finest ⬇️

I’ll be the first to validate that regardless of the reason, it still SUCKS.

It never makes us feel good…

And, your body has absolutely nothing to do with other people.

Therefore, when someone comments on it negatively, believe it or not, they’re projecting their own sh*t onto you.

And it’s totally unfair!

If we can reframe it and remind ourselves that hurt people, hurt people, it may not sting as badly.

It’s possible, I promise ⬇️

When we heal our relationship with food and allow ALL foods to be part of our intake…

We don’t feel the need to binge and/stuff ourselves.

We know that we can have those foods whenever we want to.

Just the act of telling yourself, “I can’t eat this,” makes you want it 10X more!

If you’re interested in learning how to make peace with food, we’re here to help!

Having a healthy relationship with food isn’t black and white. It isn’t about always eating donuts, but it’s not about always eating salads either.

It’s about eating what YOU want to eat, knowing what your body needs, and knowing when food needs to be for the purpose of something other than fuel.

It’s about not spending your life obsessing about your food and exercise habits.

It’s about being free.

And the best part is, YOU get to decide what that looks like.

This misunderstanding makes people feel “out of control.” ⚠️

The truth…

Our bodies are SMART.

Our bodies actually DO know best.

We are born Intuitive Eaters.

When we LISTEN to our hunger and fullness cues and practice mindful eating, our bodies NATURALLY regulate food intake.

Our bodies tell us to stop when we’re full.

I know it’s scary, but learning to lean into trusting our bodies is so worth it!

One of the biggest diet culture myths is that eating after a certain time of day causes weight gain.

It’s just not true.

Our body utilizes the food we eat in the same way no matter what time of day we eat it.

And if you deprive yourself of eating when you’re hungry, you’re a lot more likely to overeat or binge.

Everyone is different, but the majority of our clients have a night snack on a daily basis.

What’s your favorite evening snack? 🍿

Have you ever tried to shame yourself into working out more or eating better?

Yeah, it doesn’t really work.

We have to start with care and kindness for our bodies.

Our bodies are ON OUR TEAM.

Treating yourself with compassion will not result in you being lazy or “letting yourself go.”

If you have tried being kind to your body, what are some of the benefits you’ve experienced? Tell us in the comments! ⬇️

When it comes to having an eating disorder, it can be incredibly hard to admit that you need more support than you currently have.

But it’s a sign of strength to recognize when you can no longer do it on your own.

Eating disorders are a mental illness, which means usually you can’t just use willpower to overcome them.

You often need the help of licensed professionals, whether in an outpatient setting or in a treatment center.

There is absolutely no shame in reaching out for help.

“Never drink your calories” is a food rule someone made up.

If you avoid all caloric beverages, here’s a few gems you’ll be missing out on…

☀️ juice
☀️ soda
☀️ gatorade
☀️ lemonade
☀️ sweet tea
☀️ cocktails/beer/wine (if that’s your thing)
☀️ milk
☀️ CHOCOLATE milk

…to name a few.

Your body uses energy from liquids just the same as it does from solids.

Liquid calories are not evil, and if you tell yourself not to have them, you’re more likely to overdo it at some point.

So if you want to make that root beer float tonight, cheers! 🍺

Two people can eat the same thing with completely different motivations and emotions.

You can eat a salad in an unhealthy way, but you can also eat cake in an unhealthy way.

It’s not really about the food.

That’s why we have to dig deeper, into our thoughts and intentions.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

- why am I eating this?

- do I feel obligated to eat this or am I choosing it just because it sounds good?

- how am I feeling emotionally about eating this?

If you are feeling anxious, rigid, or obsessive, chances are you don’t have a healthy relationship with food.

Want to work on that? We can help! Click the link in our bio or DM us to learn more about working with our team.

An eating disorder is primarily a mental illness, not a physical one.

It can (and often does) have physical manifestations, but someone can have a full-blown eating disorder and look “normal.”

If someone tells you they think they might have an eating disorder, the right response is, “I’m so sorry, thank you for sharing, how can I help?”

Normalize not judging eating disorders by old, outdated stereotypes.

Mealtimes are supposed to be enjoyable.

Diet culture steals that from us.

Doing the work of recovery is not just saying no to your eating disorder/disordered eating…

It’s saying yes to fun mealtimes.

To spontaneous lunch dates.

To that late-night ice cream run.

It’s saying yes to connection with yourself and the people you care most about.

It’s worth it!

We talked a lot about food and eating disorder recovery. But the truth is, it’s not really about the food.

It’s about getting your life back.

It’s about spontaneously being able to go out for ice cream with your friends without obsessing about it.

It’s about waking up and having a nice slow morning without worrying about getting on the scale.

It’s about eating birthday cake at your own birthday party because you deserve to be celebrated.

What are the things in your life that eating disorder recovery has allowed you to enjoy? We want to hear!

Eating disorder recovery is HARD.

Especially in a society that praises weight loss and restriction, and shames weight gain and food freedom.

Recovery is worth it.

But it comes one step at a time, and one day at a time.

It IS possible. Keep fighting! 👊🏼

You don’t have to hold on to clothes that don’t fit in hopes of “someday” fitting in them.

Holding on to clothes that are too small can be a way of allowing diet culture to influence your thoughts and behaviors.

If you’re not ready to throw them out or donate them, you can always just put them in a box out of sight.

You are worthy of having clothes that fit your body as it is in this moment ❤️

📢 📢📢 Now introducing the newest member of our team - Allison Boyd!!!

Allison got her Bachelor’s in Dietetics from Texas A&M University. She discovered her passion for working with eating disorders after a year as a diet technician at Center for Discovery’s Houston Outpatient Program.

She went on to complete her dietetic internship with the University of Houston and returned to Center for Discovery as a Registered Dietitian, where she still works today.

There, she treats a variety of eating disorders in both teens and adults at the Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient levels of care.

Although Allison specializes in eating disorders, she loves working with anyone who wants to heal or explore their relationship with food from a non-diet approach.

Allison currently lives in Houston with her roommate and their two dogs, Wally and Luna, and two cats, Ruby and June.

She grew up in Pearland and is loving getting to know the city in a new way. Allison enjoys game nights, restaurants with outdoor patios, and fitting in as many concerts into a year as she can.

We’re so excited to have Allison on the team! She is accepting clients virtually and in-person at our Memorial office, so book with her now before her schedule fills up! 🎉
