Today at RODEOHOUSTON's Armed Forces Appreciation Day, the Houston Police Officers’ Union had the honor of presenting one of our challenge coins to 102-year-old World War II veteran Chester “Buck” Sloan of Houston.

Buck landed in Normandy just days after D-Day and fought across Europe with the 2nd Infantry Division carrying a Browning Automatic Rifle. During the war he captured around 30 German soldiers, survived being wounded by a gr***de during the Battle of the Bulge, and was awarded the Purple Heart and the French Legion of Honor.

It was a real privilege for our officers to shake his hand and thank him for his service. Men like Buck are part of the Greatest Generation and the reason we get to enjoy the freedoms we have today.

God bless Buck Sloan and God bless America. 🇺🇸
